DUI Charge For Driver After Crash; 'State Police' Scam: Blotter
Home break-ins reported, passenger charged over drugs, driver charged with felony DUI: Northbrook police blotter from Sept. 6 to Sept. 12.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
INCIDENTS
CAR BURGLARY
A resident in the 1900 block of Pfingsten Road reported on the morning of Sept. 7 that they discovered someone had stolen various auto parts from a trailer parked in a driveway.

HOME BURGLARIES
- A resident of the 4000 block of Picardy Drive reported shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 7 someone was seen running out the back door of a home just as they entered. Officers found a back door had been damaged, and it was not known if anything was stolen at the time of the report.
- A resident in the 1900 block of Farnsworth Lane reported at 12:48 p.m. on Sept. 11 that they had returned to find that someone had entered their home and stolen various pieces of jewelry.
- A resident in the 1900 block of Farnsworth Lane reported at 10:06 p.m. on Sept. 11 that they noticed pry marks on their door. Nothing was reported missing.
SOCIAL SECURITY SCAM
A Dorset Drive resident reported on the afternoon of Sept. 7 that they had gotten a phone call from someone purporting to be from the Social Security Administration. The caller told the resident there had been a claim against their social security number, and the resident realized it was a scam.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 4100 block of Ridgeland Lane reported at 11:20 p.m. on Sept. 8 that someone had damaged two tires on a parked car.
CREDIT CARD FRAUD
A Smith Road resident reported on the evening of Sept. 10 that someone had made an unauthorized credit card transaction.
'GRANDSON' SCAM
A resident in the 1800 block of Larkdale Road reported at 2:08 p.m. on Sept. 12 they had gotten a call from someone claiming that a relative had been arrested and needed money. The resident purchased $4,100 worth of gift cards and provided their numbers to the phony relative.
STATE POLICE SCAM
A Brentwood Road resident reported on the afternoon of Sept. 13 that they had gotten a call from someone who claimed to be with the Illinois State Police. The caller reportedly claimed that a vehicle had been rented using the residents information and an arrest had been made involving that vehicle. The purported state police employee threatened the resident would face imprisonment if they did not wire money, but the resident realized it was a scam.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Jonathan Rudd, 24, of the 3700 block of North Monticello Avenue in Chicago, and Rashad Mursalov, 25, of the 0-100 block of Bethel Lane in Schaumburg, were arrested around 12:06 a.m. on Sept. 8 following a traffic stop in the area of Landwehr Road and Brookdale Lane. Police pulled over a car Rudd was driving due to an equipment violation – he wound up getting a ticket for only one taillight. Officers determined Rudd was impaired and asked the passenger, Mursalov, to step out of the vehicle. A search revealed a plastic baggie containing a powdery material, and both men were charged with possession of a controlled substance. Rudd was also charged with DUI.
Carlos Orozco-Hernandez, 35, of the 1100 block of Red Oak Circle in Round Lake Beach, was arrested at 4:11 a.m. on Sept. 9 near the intersection of Sanders and Dundee roads and charged with driving under the influence following an investigation into a traffic crash. He was also cited for disobeying a traffic signal and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
A 56-year-old Schaumburg man was arrested at 11:38 p.m. on Sept. 9 near the intersection of Highland Drive and Joshua Lane and charged with driving with a suspended license. He was also issued citations for a suspended registration and driving without proof of insurance.
Jorge R. Cortes, 38, of the 5000 block of North Troy Street in Chicago, was arrested at 10:12 p.m. on Sept. 10 in the 200 block of Skokie Boulevard and charged with felony driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended license. An officer on patrol noticed a car commit a traffic violation after being involved in an earlier driving complaint and pulled it over. The officer determined Cortes was impaired and prosecutors approved a charge of aggravated driving under the influence. He was also issued a citation for improper lane usage.
