Ex-Caregiver Accused Of Exploiting Elderly: Northbrook Police Blotter

The Waukegan man made unauthorized transactions on the victim's credit card, according to police.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

SUSPENDED REGISTRATION

Natalie G. Ortiz, of Wheeling, is accused of speeding (57 mph in a 40 mph zone), having a suspended registration, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 2:22 a.m. Jan. 24, at Dundee Road and Timbers Edge Lane. A court date of March 1 was assigned.

DRUG POSSESSION

Xavier E. Bolado, of Willowbrook, is accused of possession of a controlled substance, had a warrant for retail theft, and was arrested at 3:21 a.m. Jan. 25, in the 1400 block of Shermer Road. Police responded to the Northbrook train station for a report of a suspicious subject. When police met with Bolado, he told them he wanted to sleep in the train station overnight. During the arrest for the warrant, police found 10 grams of cocaine in his backpack. A court date is pending.

IDENTITY THEFT

Mario Garcia, Jr., of Waukegan, is accused of aggravated identity theft, financial exploitation of the elderly, and was arrested at 12:30 p.m. Jan. 26, in the 1000 block of Sussex Drive. Police say Garcia made unauthorized transactions on the victim's credit card while working for them as a caregiver. A court date of Feb. 21 was assigned.

INCIDENTS

RETAIL THEFT

The loss prevention staff at a retail store in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 1:44 p.m. Jan. 22, someone concealed a pair of shoes down his pants. When the subject attempted to leave the store without paying for the shoes, the staff tried to stop him. The subject fled the store and ran away through the parking lot.

IDENTITY THEFT

  • A Violet Lane resident called police at 2:05 p.m. Jan. 22, to report someone used her Visa credit card number to make fraudulent purchases at retail stores, restaurants, and ride-shares. The complaint also said a different department store credit card number was fraudulently used online. The complainant still had the cards in her possession. She did not know how the subject was able to obtain her information.
  • A Russett Lane resident reported at 11:04 a.m. Jan. 26, someone opened several credit cards in his name through a banking institution.

THEFT/FRAUD

An Academy Drive resident reported at 3 p.m. Jan. 23, he mailed two checks to a waste company for payment. The checks never made it to the receiver, and an unknown person has now cashed the checks.

FRAUD

A Tamarind Drive resident called police at 1:04 p.m Jan. 24, to report someone fraudulently used his business’s name to purchase 30 excursions to different locations without his permission or knowledge.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

Police responded at 5:07 p.m. Jan. 25, to home in the 4300 block of Phyllis Drive to investigate a burglar alarm. Once they arrived, they found the front door ajar and another exterior door kicked in. Several rooms were ransacked. The unknown subject took money and jewelry.
