Felon Caught Hiding In Weeds On Edens: Northbrook Police Blotter

The Chicago resident is accused of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, according to police.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

RETAIL THEFT

  • A Northbrook woman is accused of retail theft following an incident reported at 1:34 p.m. Sept. 21, in the 800 block of Willow Road. The loss prevention of a grocery store said the defendant had picked up items for sale. She then walked to the back of the store, placed the items in a bag, and tried walking out without paying. The woman was arrested.
  • A Northbrook resident is accused of walking into a store in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard at 3:17 p.m. Sept. 16, and placing clothing for sale in a plastic bag. After placing several items of clothing into the bag, he walked outside the store without paying. He was arrested and charged with retail theft. A court date of Sept. 28 was assigned.

REVOKED DRIVER'S LICENSE

Nestor U. Terrazas, of Lake Bluff, is accused of felony driving with a revoked license, suspended registration, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, illegal transportation of cannabis, and was arrested at 11:38 p.m. Sept. 15, in the 1300 block of Pfingsten Road. A court date of Oct. 12 was assigned.

UNLAWFUL USE OF WEAPON BY FELON

Jounathan M. Berroteran, of Chicago, is accused of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and was arrested at 5:20 p.m. Sept. 18, in the 900 block of Skokie Boulevard. According to police, two people were arguing in a parking lot. It appeared that the defendant, Berroteran, was about to strike the other subject when he raised his arm at her and walked toward her. When the officers pulled up to investigate the incident, Beroteran, started running away. The officer noticed a handgun, a Glock 45 with an extended magazine, fall from Berroteran’s waistband. Berroteran ran into a corporate building and several officers responded. Berroteran was later caught as he tried to sneak out and hide in the weeds along the Edens Expressway. A future court date had not been determined at the time of the report.

INCIDENTS

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

A resident in the 1700 block of Ferndale Avenue reported at 2:19 p.m. Sept. 15, someone burglarized the house during the 90 minutes he was out. The subject broke through the rear door and took jewelry and cash from the bedroom.

THEFT

  • A citizen reported at 3:40 p.m. Sept. 15, they had been approached by two subjects at a retail store in the 800 block of Willow Road. They asked if she could donate money to their cause. As the woman took out her credit card, one of the subjects touched an electronic device to her card and it registered $1,000 was transferred without her permission. When she told them that’s not what she wanted, they walked away, refusing to change the amount. The complainant quickly contacted her credit card company and canceled the charge.
  • A customer at a fitness center in the 1100 block of Skokie Boulevard called police at 12:12 p.m. Sept. 20, to report their wallet, containing three credit cards and a retail store card, had been stolen from a locker while they were working out.

BATTERY

A complainant told police at 11:56 a.m. Sept. 16, that while shopping at a retail store in the 100 block of Skokie Boulecard, he approached a female. During the conversation, a male approached him. An argument started and the unknown male tried to strike the complainant, but he was able to block him. After the complainant left the store, the unknown subject re-approached the complainant. The subject struck him across the face causing a scratch and then walked away. The offender left the area prior to the officer’s arrival.
