Woman Sees Man Masturbating In Car: Northbrook Police Blotter
The subject had fled the area of the 900 block of Hawthorne Lane by the time police arrived.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
ARRESTS
FAILURE TO APPEAR IN COURT
Gregory L. Alagna, of Northbrook, had an active warrant out of DuPage County for failure to appear in court, along with new charges of having a suspended registration, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 1:07 a.m. Sept. 9, in the 1900 block of Willow Road. A court date of the Northbrook charges was set for Oct. 25. Alagna posted bond for the DuPage County warrant.

SPEEDING
A Glenview resident is accused of speeding (76 mph in a 45 mph zone) and was arrested at 7:35 p.m. Sept. 10, in the 2700 block of Pfingsten Road. A court date of Oct. 20 was assigned.

RETAIL THEFT
A Northbrook resident is accused of retail theft, and was arrested at 7 p.m. Sept. 13, in the 1400 block of Lake Cook Road. The loss prevention staff said the person came into the store, grabbed four shirts off the rack and walked into the changing room. When the staff noticed, he left two shirts in the changing room, they stopped him after he left the store without paying for anything. Sonen had concealed the two other shirts in a bag. Sonen was charged with retail theft. A court date of Sept. 29 was assigned.

INCIDENTS
VANDALISM
A citizen reported at 9:08 a.m. Sept. 9, someone threw 10 Northbrook Park District-owned trash cans into a pond in the 1100 block of Sanders Road.
RETAIL THEFT
- The loss prevention staff at a store in the 1400 block of Lake Cook Road reported at 4:19 p.m. Sept. 8, two people stole two pieces of clothing — a t-shirt and a hoodie. They fled the store without paying.
- The staff at a retail store in the 900 block of Willow Road reported at 5:36 p.m. Sept. 11, a female grabbed two bottles of shampoo and left the store without paying.
CREDIT CARD FRAUD
The staff at a retail store in the 1400 block of Lake Cook Road called police at 2:16 p.m. Sept. 12, to report a male walked into the store and walked straight to the high-end purses for sale. The subject grabbed a purse and paid for it immediately with a credit card, which the staff said was suspicious because the subject barely looked at the purse. The subject then left and walked into the adjacent jewelry store. The subject walked up to the counter and asked to buy a high-end bracelet without looking at it. When the staff questioned him about his name and information, he refused to provide. After the subject walked away, the retail store and officer determined the credit card was not his and belonged to a female with various addresses in two countries.
FORGERY
The financial staff of a business in the 900 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 11:05 a.m. Sept. 13, they found five of their business checks were written to various people without their knowledge. After looking at the checks, it was determined the checks were missing the businesses’ watermark on them. The checks totaled over $39,000.
BURGLARY
A resident in the 2100 block of Maple Avenue called police at 2:48 p.m. Sept. 13, to report someone entered his garage through an unlocked side door and stole a Trek bicycle.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO VEHICLE
A citizen called police at 3:28 p.m. Sept. 13, to report someone shot her vehicle with a BB gun while it was parked in the street in the 2500 block of Steven Lane. The 2018 BMW had several smashed windows and dents from the BB pellets.
INDECENT EXPOSURE
A citizen reported at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 13, that she saw a male seated in the driver's seat of his vehicle in the 900 block of Hawthorne Lane. As she walked past, she could see that the subject was masturbating. After a delay of contacting the Northbrook Police Department, the officer responded, but couldn’t find the vehicle or subject.
FAKE BOMB THREAT
The staff at the Northbrook Public Library, 1200 block of Cedar Lane, reported at 4:59 p.m. Sept. 14, they received a bomb threat in an email. The unknown person sent the threat to their “General Feedback” email. Several officers checked the interior and exterior of the library and nothing suspicious was found. After checking the email’s IP address, it was determined that it was similar to several other fake threats received by other libraries. The library remained open after determining the threat was fake.
