Fireworks Moved To September As 4th Of July Festivities Canceled
While Northbrook's Independence Day celebration has been canceled, the fireworks display has been postponed until September.
NORTHBROOK, IL — Citing the safety of residents due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Village of Northbrook officials announced Thursday that most of the traditional Independence Day activities have been postponed this year. Residents will still have something to look forward to, though they will have to wait a little while, as the fireworks display has been moved until Sept. 5.
“While I am disappointed, the safety of our community comes first. This year’s celebration of our country’s Independence Day will be in our hearts and with family as we continue to put the health of everyone as the top priority," Village President Sandra Frum said. "I eagerly await future community celebrations, including the fireworks this fall.”
Last week, the Village and the Park District decided to cancel 4th of July activities including the annual Liberty Loop 5K Run/Walk, the Mile-long Parade, the Bike Parade, and the Police and Fire Department softball game. The Rotary Club of Northbrook canceled the Pancake Breakfast and plans to reschedule the Rubber Ducky Race.
