GBN 2012 Grad Montana Bruhl Brings Dance, Hope, and Love to Kenya
Dancing has always been a love for Montana Bruhl and now she has had the opportunity to bring her love to thousands in the rural regions of Kenya situated near Mt. Kilimanjaro. Montana recently traveled to this area to work with her father, Dr. Warren Bruhl, and teams from Dreamweaver International. Montana's father is a director of the international charity that has programs in education, healthcare, and compassion care. On their trip, Montana would be working with all three areas of service. Using her knowledge gained from a remarkable education at Glenbrook North and her skills honed through four years of POMS, she was instrumental in helping thousands of children during her visit.
To prepare, Montana purchased school supplies and a wireless speaker system she could lead dance routines with in the various schools. At each school visited she lead teams of students in fun and exciting dance routines they were thrilled to learn and participate in with her. She also had students express their dreams and passions for their lives by drawing pictures and writing some details about their lives. Commenting on the experience, Montana said, "now I know what it feels like to be a rock star, everywhere I went children were curious about my hair, my skin, and my life in America." "I got used to having 50-100 kids surrounding me and asking me questions about my life and wanting to touch me."
Kenya along with other African nations are among the poorest places on the planet. 36 of the lowest 40 lowest infant mortality rates are in African nations. Millions are still illiterate and in this part of Africa, the rates of extreme poverty are among the highest.
Montana along with Dreamweaver International are working to change factors in this part of the world through advanced education and healthcare. One of Dreamweaver's programs is Kimana School of Leadership and Professional Studies (KSLPS). KSLPS is one of the only certified colleges in this area and boasts the most outstanding computer and IT skills training in the area. In addition, Dreamweaver is working on a healthcare project, Kilimanjaro Mission Hospital (KMH). When finished, KMH will provide a vital healing resource for an area where thousands die of preventable disease. Other exciting projects include the development of Little League Baseball and sports programs in the schools. To learn more about Dreamweaver International visit www.dreamweaver911.org
