NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

DRIVING WHILE LICENSE SUSPENDED/REVOKED

  • Richard M. Smith, 1200 block of Somerset Lane, is accused of driving while license revoked, and was arrested at 10:07 p.m. March 3, at Willow and Waukegan roads. He was released after posting a $2,500 bond and was assigned a court date of March 18.
  • Wayne J. Ashe, of the 1500 block of East Palmer Lane, Palatine, is accused of speeding 21-25 mph over the speed limit, driving while license revoked, and was arrested at 2:24 a.m. March 4, in the 4200 block of Dundee Road. He was released after posting a $2,500 bond and a court date of March 18 was assigned.
  • Dillard Shuford, of the 6800 block of S. Justine Street, Chicago, is accused of driving on a suspended license, no insurance, expired registration, and was arrested at 9:51 p.m. March 4, at Willow and Old Willow roads. They were released after posting a $2,500 bond and was assigned a court date of April 26.
  • Michael T. Casserly, of the 800 block of Fair Lane, Northbrook, had a warrant for a revoked driver's license, expired registration, and was arrested after being stopped for a traffic violation at 1:25 p.m. March 9, at Advance Auto Parts, 1900 block of Cherry Lane. He was released after posting a $2,500 bond for the traffic arrest and $15,000 for the warrant. A court date of March 31 was assigned.

BATTERY

Lee J. Sims III, of the 7400 block of S. Evans Avenue, Chicago, is accused of battery, disorderly conduct, and was arrested at 3:28 p.m. March 4, at Saks Fifth Avenue Off Fifth, 100 block of Skokie Boulevard. Officers responded to a customer dispute involving declined credit cards. Sims became angry after he refused to provide the complainant with a form of identification for the credit cards. According to police, Sims ensued in a heated argument with the cashier, where he threatened the cashier with bodily harm. The employee then attempted to escort Sims out of the store when he aggressively slapped the complainant’s hand away and began charging the complainant. According to police, Sims then began striking and scratching the complainant as they were attempting to escort the defendant out of the store. During the search of Sims, officers located a credit card with a different name. He was released after posting a $1,000 bond and was assigned a court date of April 18.

IDENTITY THEFT

Sheri Smith, of the 2400 block of Fillmore Street, Chicago, is accused of felony identity theft between $2,000 and $10,000, and was arrested at 2:22 p.m. March 1, at Midwest Performance Cars, 1800 block of Holste Road. Police said she used another person's credit card to pay for repairs to her personal vehicle. Smith was taken into custody in Westchester before being taken back to Northbrook.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Reginald Crawford, of the 1500 block of Lorelei Drive, Zion, is accused of driving under the influence of drugs, driving on the wrong side of the road, and was arrested at 4:41 p.m. March 9, at Waukegan Road and Thornwood Lane. They were released after posting a $1,000 bond and were assigned a court date of April 13.

POSSESSION OF CANNABIS

Zachary C. Herndon, of the 10000 block of Michael Todd Terrace, Glenview, had warrants out of Glenview for a bond forfeiture warrant and for possession of cannabis (100-500 grams) out of McLean County, and was arrested at 1:22 p.m. March 10, at Willow and Greenwood roads.

RETAIL THEFT

Inga Jackson, of the 2000 block of Walters Avenue, Northbrook, is accused of retail theft, trespassing, and was arrested at 6:56 a.m. March 10, at Sunset Foods, 1100 block of Church Street. An employee said Jackson removed a bottle of alcohol without paying for it after already being trespassed from the store for a previous retail theft on March 4. She was assigned a court date of March 25.

INCIDENTS

SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCE

  • A person contacted police at 6:26 p.m. March 3, after seeing a man and woman involved in an argument at Walgreens, 1000 block of Waukegan Road. Officers spoke to both parties and no police assistance was needed. All parties departed the scene without incident.
  • A Landwehr Road resident reported at 3:52 a.m. March 4, receiving multiple harassing text messages, but refused to provide any further information. Complainant was advised to block the subject’s phone number.
  • A resident in the 3400 block of Bayberry Drive reported at 3:35 p.m. March 7, she hired a moving company and real estate company to assist with a move. Complainant discovered items missing for a total loss of over $5,000.

SUSPICIOUS VEHICLES

Police found multiple vehicles with dark tints and after-market alterations parked at 12:20 a.m. March 4, in the parking lot at Potbelly Sandwich, 800 block of Skokie Boulevard. Police made contact with the driver, who said they were looking up directions. All drivers departed without incident.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE

  • The owner of Santucci Plumbing, 1800 block of Janke Drive, called police to report that between March 3 and March 4, catalytic converters were removed from three of his work vehicles.
  • A resident in the 300 block of Wainwright Drive reported on March 4 that on Feb. 17, someone removed the catalytic converter from a vehicle.
  • An employee of F.E. Moran, 2200 block of Carlson Drive, reported that between March 3 and March 4, someone removed the catalytic converter from one vehicle and had attempted to remove the catalytic converter from another vehicle.
  • A person at Marcello's, 1900 block of Cherry Lane called police to report that between March 3 and March 4, someone removed the catalytic converters from his vehicle.
  • A resident in the 1900 block of Raymond Drive reported on March 7 that someone removed the catalytic converter from his vehicle.
  • An employee at Reliance Plumbing, 1800 block of Techny Road, reported at 8:16 a.m. March 9, someone wearing all black with a head covering stole catalytic converters off of two box trucks.
  • An employee at Pure Power Generartors, 1800 block of Techny Road, called police at 8:48 a.m. March 9, to report two catalytic converters were stolen from two company vehicles.
  • Police found two vans missing catalytic converters at 9:17 a.m. March 9, in the 1800 block of Techny Road.
  • An employee of a business in the 1800 block of Techny Road reported at 9:17 a.m. March 9, the catalytic converter was stolen from his work van.
  • A person reported someone removed the catalytic converter from their vehicle between Nov. 4, 2021, and March 10, 2022, in the 4500 block of Lake Cook Road.

COMPUTER FRAUD

A Second Street resident called police on March 2 to report he was scammed out of $3,000 to purchase bitcoin via a link from his cousin’s Instagram account that had been hacked.

CIVIL DISPUTE

A resident in the 800 block of Western Avenue called police at 9:45 a.m. March 4, to report a van was parked outside his residence and the van’s occupant was taking pictures of his residence. The van belonged to a company that the complainant has an ongoing dispute with. Both parties were contacted and advised to stay away from one another.

FRAUD

A person at St. Norbert's Church, 1800 block of Walters Avenue, reported at 12:58 p.m. March 4, a check in the amount of $980.88 had been deposited online. It was determined the check did not appear to be authentic.

UNWANTED SUBJECT

An employee at P.F. Chang's China Bistro, 1800 block of Lake Cook Road, reported at 2:29 p.m. March 5, someone was washing his socks in the sink and refusing to leave. Officers issued a no trespass warning and the subject left without incident.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

A resident of the 400 block of Anjou Drive reported at 12:16 p.m. March 5, someone cut the holiday lights that were on her bushes.

THEFT

A person reported at 2:46 p.m. March 6, their laptop bag containing money and checkbooks was stolen in the 700 block of Skokie Boulevard.

ANIMAL CRUELTY

A person reported at 6:19 p.m. March 7, a dog had been left in a vehicle for an extended period of time at UPS, 2500 block of Shermer Road. The owner was located and an animal control officer was notified.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

A person at Ruth's Chris, 900 block of Skokie Boulevard, reported at 8:32 p.m. March 7, someone she had prior incidents with was at the same restaurant as her. The complainant lunged at the table of the other person, causing a disturbance, but no injuries. Officers arrived and the complainant departed without incident.

RETAIL THEFT

An employee at Ulta, 900 block of Willow Road, reported at 7:17 p.m. March 8, a woman concealed perfume and departed the store without purchasing them. The subject is described as being in her late 20s-early 30s, braided hair, dark winter coat with a hood, light blue sweatpants, Ugg-like winter boots, and a blue surgical face mask.

IDENTITY THEFT

An Ivy Lane resident called police at 7:07 p.m. March 9, to report someone used their name and information to access his bank account and make an $11,000 transfer from his home equity line to his checking account. The unknown person also purchased a new phone through the complainant’s account without authorization from the complainant.

DECEPTIVE PRACTICE

A person reported that between Dec. 27, 2021, and Jan. 3, 2022, a $19,000 check he placed in the mail drop had been intercepted and deposited at an unknown PNC Bank location.

CIVIL DISPUTE

A Skokie Boulevard resident called police at 9:33 a.m. March 10, to report receiving a letter regarding payment for a truck repair and storage of the truck, which is owned by the complainant’s leasing company. Complainant followed up on the letter, and it appeared the letter was a scam and the vehicle’s location was now unknown. Complainant was advised to file a stolen vehicle report with the municipality where the vehicle was last located.

ROAD RAGE

Police responded at 11:49 a.m. March 10, to a report of a road rage incident between two drivers in the Nordstrom Rack parking lot, 100 block of Skokie Boulevard. The officer advised both parties of safer driving habits and etiquette. Both parties departed without incident.
