Men Steal $2.9K Prada Purse, Watch For 'Girlfriends': Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
ARRESTS
SPEEDING
Juan Rodriguez, of the 1000 block of N. 12th Avenue, Melrose Park, is accused of speeding 26-34 mph over the speed limit, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, loud muffler, and was arrested at 8:15 a.m. Feb. 22, in the 2100 block of Shermer Road. They were released on $2,500 bond and assigned a court date of March 25.

SUSPENDED REGISTRATION
- Dustin H. Gantz, of the 1300 block of Wendy Drive, Northbrook, is accused of having a suspended registration, no insurance, and was arrested at 9:06 p.m. March 2, at Dundee and Huehl. He was released after posting a $3,000 bond and assigned a court date of March 17.
- Jose Montalvo-Quiahua, of the 2900 block of Rutherford, Chicago, is accused of having a suspended registration, no proof of insurance, and was arrested at 10:26 p.m. March 2, at Willow Road and Founders Drive. He was released after posting a $3,000 bond and was assigned a court date of March 18.
- Tara L. Lacerra, of the 2700 block of Crabtree Lane, Northbrook, is accused of having a suspended registration, and was arrested at 10:21 p.m. March 2, at Western and Cherry. She was released after posting a $2,500 bond and was assigned a court date of March 18.

- Richard M. Smith, of the 1200 block of Somerset Lane, Glenview, is accused of driving while license revoked, and was arrested at 10:07 p.m. March 3, at Willow and Waukegan roads. He was released after posting a $2,500 bond and assigned a court date of March 18.
- Wayne J. Ashe, of the 1500 block of East Palmer Lane, Palatine, is accused of speeding 21-25 mph over the speed limit, driving while license revoked, and was arrested at 2:24 a.m. March 4, in the 4200 block of Dundee Road. He was released after posting a $2,500 bond and was assigned a court date of March 18.

INCIDENTS
RETAIL THEFT
- An employee of Walgreens, 1000 block of Waukegan Road, reported at 5:38 p.m. Feb. 25, someone concealed a large amount of cosmetics in his jacket and exited the store. The offender is described as a male wearing a black winter hat, dark-colored mask, dark coat over a black hoodie, blue jeans, and tan boots. The complainant said the offender took at least 18 items totaling around $287.
- An employee of Nordstrom Rack called police at 5:03 p.m. Feb. 28, to report a retail theft. The offender was described as a male, approximately 6-foot-3, 165 pounds, with short brown hair, and dressed in all black. Total amount of merchandise taken and recovered was $2,469.88.
- An employee of Prada, inside of Nieman Marcus, 1400 block of Lake Cook Road, reported at 5:08 p.m. Feb. 28, four men entered the store and began talking to the complainant about purses for their girlfriends. When the subjects left, she discovered a purse and wallet missing. Surveillance video shows two of the subjects take the merchandise totaling $2,925.
- An employee of Mariano's, 700 block of Skokie Boulevard, called police at 9:45 p.m. March 1, to report someone took 5-10 bottles of liquor and departed without paying. The subject was described as a male t, mid to late 30’s, green hat, blue coat, blue joggerpants, and white shoes.
THEFT
- A resident of the 2100 block of Washington Drive called police at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 27, to report after returning from out of town they discovered several items missing including several jewelry items and a vehicle. There was a total loss of over $100,000.
- A resident of the 900 block of Holly Court reported at 5:44 p.m. March 1, an employee removed $5,000 from a dresser drawer inside the residence.
- A customer at Whole Foods, 800 block of Willow Road, reported at 3:06 p.m. March 3, they were shopping when someone took her wallet. She spoke with an employee of Whole Foods who reviewed the video and observed the person walk up to the complainant’s cart, remove a wallet from the complainant’s purse, and then depart the store. The subject is described as a female with long dreadlock hair, a white winter hat, black mask, tan jacket, jeans and tan boots.
DECEPTIVE PRACTICE
- A Yorkshire Lane resident reported that between Feb. 20 and Feb. 28, they mailed a check from the main Northbrook Post Office facility (outdoor drop boxes). The check was intercepted, with the payee name changed, and the amount altered prior to being deposited.
- A Wendy Drive resident called police to report that between Feb. 20 and Feb. 28, they mailed a check from the main Northbrook Post Office facility (outdoor drop boxes). The check was intercepted, with the payee name changed, and the amount altered prior to being cashed.
- A Sussex Drive resident reported that between Feb. 25 and Feb. 28, their bank notified them that someone cashed a check against his account. Complainant advised the check was not the same design as his, the check numbers were wrong, and the printing and signature on the checks did not belong to him.
- A Startford Place resident called police to report between Feb. 25 and Feb. 28, someone deposited a fraudulent check against his account. Check had correct routing and account numbers, but did not look like the checks he was issued.
UNLAWFUL USE OF CREDIT CARD
A manager at Midwest Performance Cars, 1800 block of Holste, reported at 2:22 p.m. March 1, a woman brought in an Alfa Romeo, and work totaling $3027.70 was performed. The bill was paid by phone with a credit card and the vehicle was then picked up. A short time later, the business received a call from someone who asked why his credit card had been used at the business. The person said his card was lost but he hadn’t yet canceled it. He also did not give anyone permission to use his credit card. The payment was refunded to the person's card.
THEFT FROM VEHICLE
A person at Santucci Plumbing, 1800 block of Janke Drive, reoported that between March 3 and March 4, someone removed the catalytic convertors from three of his work vehicles.
