Man Displays Knife During Paycheck Dispute: Northbrook Police Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
ARRESTS
NO VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE
Daniel Munoz Berbabe, of Wheeling, is accused of having a suspended registration, expired registration, no valid driver's license, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 12:05 p.m. Dec. 13, at Waukegan Road and Shagbark Lane. A court date of Jan. 23 was assigned.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT
Luis Ricardo, of Louisville, Kentucky, is accused of aggravated assault, unlawful use of a weapon, disorderly conduct, and was arrested at 11:11 a.m. Dec. 19, in the 3300 block of Commercial Avenue. Ricardo had reportedly been terminated from a job and returned to the business, disputing a remaining paycheck. During the argument, Ricardo displayed a knife to the complainant and demanded him to pay him. Once the officers arrived, Ricardo turned the knife over to the officers and was taken into custody. A court date of Jan. 14, 2025 was assigned.

INCIDENTS
COUNTERFEIT MONEY
The staff at a movie theater at Lake Cook Road and Skokie Boulevard reported at 9:54 p.m. Dec. 14, two males had attempted to purchase a gift card using a $100 bill. The staff noticed the bill to be counterfeit and refused to accept it. The two drove away in a 2016 white Mazda. Two officers saw the vehicle when it was driving away and attempted to stop it. The vehicle fled from the officers at a high rate of speed out of Northbrook.
THEFT FROM VEHICLE
A citizen reported at 4:37 a.m. Dec. 16, someone had stolen the catalytic converter from his 2011 yellow Ford E350 while it was parked outside a storage facility in the 2700 block of Shermer Road.
PHONE SCAM
A Techny Road resident reported at 7:05 p.m. Dec. 16, she had received a fraud alert on November 26 from her banking institution regarding a large purchase from an electronic store. Since she was unaware of the transaction, she contacted her bank and told them she did not authorize the purchase for $1,698. Over the next few weeks, she received a phone call from someone claiming to be with a delivery service, advising her she owed $1,499 for that purchase. She advised them of the fraud and they connected her with another subject claiming to be with the Federal Trade Commission. He advised her she was in trouble and needed to pay $40,000. The complainant complied and handed the money over to a person that met her in a parking lot. She later realized the phone calls were a scam.
BURGLARY TO AUTO
A citizen reported at 2:17 p.m. Dec. 17, she had parked her 2018 silver Mercedes at a store parking lot and went inside to shop. After 20 minutes she returned to her vehicle and noticed the rear passenger window was smashed. The offender had stolen her “Toms” handbag that was on the rear seat, which contained her bank cards, check book, IPad and $1,000 in cash.
STOLEN AUTO
A citizen reported at 2:47 p.m. Dec. 17, she had parked her 2022 blue Porsche SUV in a parking lot, but left it unlocked with the keys inside. When she returned, the vehicle was stolen. The vehicle was later recovered in the Village of Dolton when it was found parked in front of a house.
