Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash Was Former District 225 School Board President

Irwin Lyons was an avid motorcyclist who also served on the Elementary School District 34 board.

Irwin Lyons, the Glenview man who was killed in a motorcycle crash in rural South Dakota on July 21 was a former Glenbrook District 225 School Board president who also served on Glenview’s Elementary School District 34 School Board, the Chicago Tribune reports.

“Irwin was one of the best school board members I’ve seen in 30 years of being involved in Northbrook and Glenview,” said Art Wulf, who served one term on the high school board with Lyons. “Irwin was knowledgeable and a really nice guy to have on the school board during a period with a lot of contention.”

Lyons was also an accountant with more than 40 years of experience, having spent the last 22 at Miller Cooper & Co. out of Chicago.

He was an avid motorcyclist who enjoyed riding scenic American highways, a friend told the Tribune.

On the day of the accident, Lyons was pronounced dead at the junction of U.S. Highways 12 and 83. The state’s Highway Patrol indicated he was westbound on U.S. Highway 12 when an eastbound semitrailer turned north on U.S. Highway 83. The semi driver did not see Lyons as the vehicles collided.
