Man Strikes Smoking Neighbor On The Head With A Pipe: Northbrook Police Blotter
The accused reportedly noticed his neighbor smoking outside their apartment complex, and started yelling at them before the attack.
NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
ARRESTS
BATTERY
Cameron D. Carlsen, of Northbrook, is accused of battery, and was arrested at 2:18 a.m. March 7, in the 2800 block of Dundee Road. According to police, Carlsen had noticed a neighbor smoking outside their apartment complex. After Carlsen yelled at the smoker, he reportedly stuck him on the head with a pipe. The victim was taken to a local hospital and treated for his injuries. A court date of March 24 was assigned.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE
Juan C. Maldonado Barvecho, of Chicago, is accused of illegal transportation of alcohol, drivng under the influence, and was arrested at 8:31 p.m. March 7, in the 100 block of Reverend Drive. An officer observed a 2016 gold Chevrolet that was running and with the headlights on in the parking lot of a business that was closed. Due to suspicious behavior and past burglaries, the officer stopped to check on the occupant. The officer met with the driver, Maldonado Barbecho, who reportedly appeared passed out and slumped forward. The officer could see several open alcoholic drinks on the rear passenger seat. The officer was able to open the car door and eventually wake Maldonado Barbecho. He appeared to be intoxicated and failed the field sobriety tests. A court date of March 30 was assigned.

VIOLATING AN ORDER OF PROTECTION
Luis W. Collazo, of Chicago, is accused of violating an order of protection, and was arrested at 12:28 a.m. March 8, at Skokie Boulevard and Dundee Road. The officer found a 2026 red Jeep at night that did not have any taillights illuminated. The officer stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver, Collazo, who had an order of protection that had been previously served to him indicating not to have any contact with someone, who police said was found to be a front seat passenger of his car. A court date of March 12 was assigned.
INCIDENTS
PORCH THEFT
A resident of the 1400 block of Waukegan Road reported at 11:57 a.m. March 6, that Amazon had delivered his Kamrui gaming board, valued at $529.99, to his front porch at around 4 a.m. When he walked out to grab the item later in the morning, he discovered that the gaming board was missing from the packaging.
IDENTITY THEFT
- A Skokie Boulevard resident reported at 12:37 p.m. March 6, that she had canceled her satellite television account and phone account recently. Yet, when she reviewed her recent bank statements, she noticed several new withdrawals from those old accounts. She contacted her bank and they confirmed the illegal transactions were fraudulent.
- A resident of Brittany Road reported at 4:33 p.m. March 10, someone had used his information and opened multiple credit union accounts in Kentucky. Several loans were taken out in his name totaling $401,526.00. The complainant is working with an identity theft assistance group to clear his name.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO VEHICLE
A resident in the 1400 block of Walters Avenue reported at 2:41 p.m. March 7, he had parked his 2020 gray Infiniti in the parking lot of his residence. When he checked on his vehicle hours later, he noticed the front and rear windshields had been smashed by an unknown object.
EBAY SCAM
A resident in the 1500 block of Walters Avenue reported at 2:49 p.m. March 7, that he had found silver dollar coins for sale on eBay. He paid for the items and the seller out of California was supposed to send them via USPS. On March 2, two of the three envelopes arrived from the seller, but the packages were empty. It did not appear that the packages were tampered with. Total loss was $1,102.64.
UBER SCAM
A Brian Drive resident reported at 5:38 p.m. March 7, that she had noticed an unusual charge on her bank statement. The $9.99 charge was from Uber, indicating a membership fee. The complainant never signed up for Uber or authorized the charge. After looking up customer service, she called the number listed and spoke to man, who advised her that she needed he needed to first deposit $499.99 into an account he listed and that would correct the matter. After questioning what the person said about the membership, she contacted her bank and closed the account that was affected. Bank staff advised her it was a scam.
PURSE SNATCHING
A complainant reported to police that she had opened her vehicle at around 4:16 p.m. March 8, after shopping in the 100 block of Skokie Road. When she went to sit down int he driver's seat, a man suddenly opened her passenger door and quickly stole her purse before she could grab it. The man ran to a black sport utility vehicle and fled the parking lot. An officer found the purse a few blocks away on the roadway, but it was missing her money, IDs and credit cards.
TEXTING SCAM
A The Court of Greenway resident reported at 11:43 p.m. March 8, that she had received several texts on her phone from an unknown person. The texter had demanded the complainant send money via an app. The unknown person also said if the complainant didn't reply she could face violence. The texts had several grammatical errors and appeared to be a scam.
BURGLARY TO VEHICLE
The staff of a concrete repair business reported at 12:12 p.m. March 10, that while working inside a home in the 1500 block of Carol Court, someone had stolen tools out of the side compartments of their truck. The tools consisted of a generator, concrete drill, a compactor and various other tools. The total loss was $14,200.
