Man Throws Stolen Frying Pan At Staff: Northbrook PD Blotter

The male fled from the staff before police arrived at the grocery store in the 800 block of Willow Road.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

SUSPENDED REGISTRATION

Marino Sanchez Alonso, of Wheeling, is accused of improper use of registration, suspended registration, felony possession of fraudulent registration, and was arrested at 1:02 p.m. Jan 4, in the 900 block of Willow Road. A court date of Jan. 6 was assigned.

NO VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE

Jhonnel A. Morales Sanchez, of Chicago, is accused of having a suspended registration, no valid driver's license, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, no front license plate, a defective cracked windshield, and was arrested at 10:36 p.m. Jan. 6, at Willow and Shermer roads. A court date of Feb. 24 was assigned.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Laurie Silverman, of Northbrook, is accused of improper lane usage, driving under the influence, and was arrested at 8:48 p.m. Jan. 8, at Dundee and Waukegan roads. A court date of Feb. 7 was assigned.

  • The clerk at a gas station in the 1900 block of Willow Road reported at 3:44 a.m. Jan. 3, that after he went to the washroom, a male walked behind the counter and stole 16 books of scratch lottery tickets. When the clerk came out of the bathroom, the person was gone.
  • The loss prevention staff at a beauty retail store in the 900 block of Willow Road reported at 5:03 p.m. Jan. 4, two males had walked in and grabbed two of their reusable shopping bags for sale. The two filled the bags full of perfumes and colognes. Once the bags were filled, the two walked out of the store without paying for any of the items.
  • The staff of a grocery store in the 700 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 2:14 p.m. Jan. 6, a female had come into the store and grabbed a shopping cart and a plastic tote container. The person loaded up $991.03 worth of liquor inside the tote container and walked out of the store without paying.
  • The loss prevention staff at a grocery store in the 700 block of Skokie Boulevard called police at 2:59 p.m. Jan. 7, to report a male had walked in and grabbed five bottles of expensive tequila. The male walked out of the store with the stolen items without paying. The total amount taken was $1,950.80.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO VEHICLE

An employee of a business in the 3000 block of Shermer Road called police at 12:05 p.m. Jan. 3, to report he found a screw in his tire while working. The complainant thought that someone at the workplace put the screw into his tire instead of a random screw that his vehicle picked up on the road.

PHONE SCAM

A resident of The Court Of Island Point reported at 12:35 p.m. Jan. 6, she had received a text from someone she thought was from her bank. During the conversation, the complainant released confidential information that allowed access to her account. When she checked her account later in the day, $12,000 was missing. Her bank advised her it was a scam.

THEFT/FORGERY
  • A Skokie Boulevard resident reported at 4:12 p.m. Jan. 7, he was supposed to receive a check through the mail in the amount of $2,752.26. Due to a recent move, the mail was to be forwarded to the new Northbrook address, but never did. While checking on the status of the payment, he discovered that someone had received the check and cashed it using his name.
  • A resident in the 2100 block of Foxglove Drive called police at 9:35 a.m. Jan. 9, to report that between November and December 2023, several pieces of jewelry were missing from his condo at an assisted living facility. Even though there was no forced entry into the unit, there were at least $10,000 worth of jewelry stolen.

SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES

A complainant reported to police at 3:01 p.m. Jan. 8, that another driver in a white Nissan began driving recklessly at Dundee and Sanders roads. At times, the driver would almost hit his vehicle. At one point, the complainant thought the other driver displayed a weapon, maybe a handgun, at him. The officers searched the area and could not locate the reckless driver.

ATTEMPTED RETAIL THEFT

The loss prevention staff at a grocery store in the 800 block of Willow Road called police at 2:59 p.m. Jan. 9, to report they saw a male grab a Zyls frying pan for sale and hide it in a shopping bag. The male walked out of the store without paying for the pan. When the staff stopped the male outside, he became confrontational and threw the stolen pan at them. The male fled from the staff and officers could not locate them when they arrived.
