Resident Discovers $200K In Jewelry Stolen From Home: Blotter
The resident, who had been out of town for over a week, said $4,000 in cash was also missing: Northbrook Police Blotter.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
ARRESTS
NO DRIVER'S LICENSE
- Darrell R. Rhyme, of the 1500 block of Lorelei Drive, Zion, is accused of no driver's license, possession of fraudulent identification cards (a felony charge), no insurance, expired registration, improper lighting, and was arrested at 1:03 a.m. Feb. 19, in the 1600 block of Dundee Road. He was assigned a court date of March 17.
- Fernando Castrejon, of the 200 block of E. Manchester Drive, Wheeling, is accused of no valid driver's license, speeding 11-14 mph over the speed limit, and was arrested at 10:59 p.m. Feb. 22, at Willow and Shermer roads. He was released after posting $2,500 bond and he was assigned a court date of March 17.

Chinbat Manibazar, of the 4200 block of Central Road, Glenview, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, no insurance, improper lane usage, and was arrested at 6:08 p.m. Feb. 19, at Pfingsten and Cherry. A call had been made to police about a car swerving and then driven into a ditch. A man, later identified as Manibazar, was found by police walking from the area. He said he had lost control of his vehicle because of the snow and had drank a couple of beers earlier. He was released on a $1,000 bond and was assigned a court date of March 18.
DRUG POSSESSION

Rafael R. Ortiz, of the 1800 block of N. St. Louis, Chicago, is accused of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and was arrested at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 22, at Walgreens, 1000 block of Waukegan Road. The employee related that Ortiz entered the bathroom and concealed merchandise. Ortiz was searched and a plastic baggy containing a white powdered substance fell from his person, according to police. Ortiz also had a metal pipe with burnt residue on both ends. A future court date was pending at the time of the report.
FORGERY
Lisa Guerra, of Park City, is accused of having a warrant for four counts of forgery of checks, and was arrested. Bond was set at $10,000 for each count.
SUSPENDED/REVOKED DRIVER'S LICENSE
Evelyn Alvarez, of the 5800 block of N. Artesian Avenue, Chicago, is accused of having a suspended driver's license, suspended registration, one headlamp, and was arrested at 10:12 p.m. Feb. 23, at Willow Road and Three Lakes. She was released after posting $3,000 bond and was assigned a court date of March 18.

INCIDENTS
RETAIL THEFT
- While police were responding to a hold-up alarm for the store, a complainant called 911 at 7:31 p.m. Feb. 18, to report a retail theft had just occurred at Nordstrom Rack, 100 block of Skokie Boulevard. Approximately 4 people entered the store and removed 20 handbags that ranged from $600-$1,000 each. One subject had on a gray-hooded sweatshirt, and another was described as a tall man wearing an olive green coat.
- At 7:51 a.m. Feb. 22, two women placed $2,992.76 worth of merchandise in a cart and left Lowes, 1000 block of Willow Road, without paying.
THEFT FROM VEHICLE
- A resident in the 2200 block of Cherry Lane called police at 1:40 p.m. Feb. 19, to report his catalytic converter was stolen from his parked vehicle between 8a.m. and 1 p.m.
- A resident in the 2000 block of Valencia Drive reported at 1:24 p.m. Feb. 23, two of his vehicles had the catalytic converters stolen.
- A person at Renaissance Chicago, 900 block of Skokie Boulevard, reported at 11:52 a.m. Feb. 24, the catalytic converter from his car had been removed.
- A person called police at 12:35 p.m. Feb. 22, to report two catalytic converters were removed from work trucks.
RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY
A resident in the 1000 block of Voltz Road reported on Feb. 19 that he had been out of town since Feb. 10 and found the glass on a rear patio door shattered upon his return. Officers found the drawers open and rummaged through in the master bedroom, bath, and closet. Complainant related that jewelry with an approximate value of $200,000 was taken, along with approximately $4,000 in money.
THEFT
A person called police at 7:49 a.m. Feb. 21, to report at some time during the overnight hours, someone had broken into the drive-up freestanding mailboxes in the parking lot of the United States Postal Service building, 2400 block of Dundee Road. All three mailboxes were pried open from the rear, and lying next to them on the ground was a tool possibly used to open the mailboxes.
BATTERY
A person reported at 6:52 p.m. Feb. 21, they went to serve someone with a notice in the 2100 block of Woodlawn Road and they shut the door on the complainant’s hand after handing him the notice.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO VEHICLE
A person called police at 11:42 a.m. Feb. 23, to report they parked their van in the rear lot of Bank Financial, 1300 block of Shermer Road, and a few minutes later, heard a car alarm sounding. A man was seen walking away from his van carrying a jack. The complainant then discovered a cut in his catalytic converter.
