NBJH Students Win Commencement Awards

More than 200 students took their final steps across the stage at Northbrook Junior High School on Tuesday, including two who were recognized with prestigious awards during the commencement ceremony.

Nora Smith and Lucky Deutsch were selected as the winners of the American Legion Citizenship Award by a staff-wide vote, according to a District 28 news release. Shawn Oberholtzer, Torri Welch and Derek Blunt received honorable mention.

The award is presented to “two students who place an emphasis on the development of six qualities: courage, honor, leadership, patriotism, scholarship and service,” according to the release.

Deutsch was also named winner of the school’s Rotary Volunteer Service Award, the only other award presented at graduation.
