Nearly $2K in Golf Equipment Stolen: Police

Former employee who helped out "friend" gets theft charge for not scanning item.

DRIVING WHILE LICENSE SUSPENDED

Emmanuel Augustin, 26, Des Plaines was stopped at Voltz and Grant roads at 5:30 p.m. on May 13 and cited for driving while suspended and speeding.

EXPIRED DRIVER’S LICENSE

Cameron Carlson, 30, 2820 Dundee Apt. 4B was stopped at Shermer and Walters roads at 5:22 p.m. on May 13 and cited for having an expired driver’s license, speeding and possession of cannabis.

BURGLARY TO AUTO

A victim in the 100 block of Blackthorn reported an offender entered her vehicle and removed a wallet containing identification, credit cards and 30 dollars at 8:32 a.m. on May 13. The victim’s vehicle may have been left unlocked at the time of the burglary.

RETAIL THEFT

Daniel Munoz, 35, Burnham, Ill. was arrested on a retail theft charge at 1:19 p.m. on May 11 in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Rd. The defendant, a former employee, was observed on store video conducting a transaction. He was observed scanning an item valued at $12.15 for a customer but not scanning another item valued at $79.99. The customer then left the register with both items of merchandise. The former employee would only describe the customer as a friend. The defendant was issued an LO ticket.

DRIVING WHILE LICENSE SUSPENDED

Carrie J. Kane, 36, Gurnee was stopped at Landwehr and Dundee roads at 12:10 p.m. on May 12 and charged with driving while license suspended. Officers responded to an auto accident.

THEFT

The complainant, an employee in the 1400 block of Skokie Hwy., reported that sometime over the weekend, between May 5 and 11, offenders cut a hole in the perimeter fence on the north side of the property and removed approximately 500 feet of copper wire. No estimate of the cost of stolen property.

THEFT

A victim in the 1300 block of WIllow Rd. left his golf clubs in the teaching shed near the clubhouse on May 8. When he returned the next morning he discovered that several clubs had been stolen from his golf bag. The total loss is $1,750 in equipment.

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY

A victim in the 2500 block of Cobblewood reported on May 8 that she was home asleep when she heard her doorbell ring. She looked out from a second story window and saw dark colored vehicle parked on street. She observed a male subject exit the vehicle and walk to the front porch of the house. The complainant was walking downstairs when she heard a loud crash at her front door. She saw a male offender inside the home by the front door and two other men were standing outside door about to enter the house. The victim screamed and all three offenders fled the home. The victim was not injured and nothing was stolen from the residence.

RETAIL THEFT

Layla E. Benjamin, 45, Skokie was charged with retail theft at 6:38 p.m. on May 8 in the 100 block of Skokie Hwy. The complainant, the store loss prevention agent, observed the defendant switch price tags on merchandise. The offender then paid the incorrect amount at the register. The value of the merchandise was approximately $10.00. The defendant was issued an LO ticket and released at the scene.

BURGLARY TO VEHICLE

A victim in the 1400 block of Maple Ave. reported at 3:43 p.m. on May 8 that while her vehicle was parked on the street offenders entered it and removed her brown leather Colhan “hobo” purse and a gym bag. There was no sign of forced entry to the vehicle. Stolen was a Coach wallet containing various credit cards and $20.
