Test Results Lead To Arrests: Northbrook Crimes
Northbrook Police Blotter: May 19 - May 26

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of police activity and incidents reported to police. An arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges can be dropped or reduced. Everyone accused of a crime is innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
RECKLESS DRIVING
Austin A. Clement, 57, of the 0-100 block of Curricle Road in Wheeling was arrested 8:34 a.m. on May 25 and charged with reckless driving, speeding, improper lane usage, improper passing and following too close. While on patrol, officers observed the Clement's vehicle speeding in the 2900 block of Techny Road, driving in a bike lane, tailgating, and passing cars in no passing zones. Police pulled over the vehicle in the 1900 block of Techny Rd and placed the driver under arrest for reckless driving. His court date is scheduled for June 9.

POSSESSION CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE / SUSPENDED LICENSE
Hisis Torres-Gonzalez, 36, of the 1300 block of North Rockwell in Chicago, was charged May 23 at 5 a.m. on a felony count of possession of a controlled substance. Initially, Torres-Gonzales had been pulled over for a traffic violation on March 9 at Waukegan and Kamp roads, where police found she had a suspended license. After searching the vehicle, officers found 22 pills in an unlabeled bottle and sent them to the lab for testing. The results from the lab showed the pills were Tramadol, a controlled substance. After being contacted, Torres-Gonzales turned herself in on a felony charge of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

DRUG POSSESSION
Howard M. Horn, 64, of the 700 block of Skokie Highway, was arrested this week and charged with possession of more than 30 grams of methaqualone (Quaaludes). Police were called to Horn's apartment on March 23 by one of his friends who said that for several days he had been incommunicado and may need assistance. Police tried to reach Horn without success, so they proceeded to enter his apartment to check on his well-being. Police said they located Horn in a bedroom and also found a bag of white powder on a night stand. The bag was seized and later tested. Test results showed the bag contained methaqualone. Horn was notified and turned himself in. His next court appearance has been scheduled for June 2.
ATTEMPT BURGLARIES ON MAY 23
- The owner of a house on the 2800 block Canterbury was at home around 2:30 p.m. on May 23 when she heard the front door bell ring then several loud knocks on her front door. She looked out a window and observed a male, approximately 30-40 years old, wearing a baseball cap walk to the rear yard. Shortly after that, she heard the rear patio door glass shatter and called 9-1-1 from an upstairs bedroom. The man had fled before police arrived but the responding officer discovered the window-breaker had also apparantly attempted to kick in a garage service door along the side of the residence.
- The resident on the 2600 block Quail Lane reported that between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on May 23, someone threw a landscaping brick against the patio door shattering the outer pane but not the inner pane. The brick-thrower was unable to enter the residence and nothing was stolen.
- A caller reported that he is moving, so his residence on the 2600 block of Quail Lane has been left vacant. When he was checking the house on May 24 he discovered the front door had been forced open and the lock had been damaged sometime in the prior day. There was nothing of value in the residence at the time of the entry, police were told.
BURGLARY
The victim reported that between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on May 21, someone entered his hotel room and rummaged through his belongings at the Renaissance Chicago North Shore hotel on the 900 block of Skokie Highway. However, after checking through his things, the victim told police nothing appeared to have been stolen.
RETAIL THEFT
On May 19, the loss prevention agent at the REI on the 800 block of Willow Road reported a retail theft which occurred the prior day. The guard reported a heavyset, balding white man in his 30’s, wearing a gray t-shirt entered the store and inquired about some performance insoles. Later, the man was spotted by a clerk with a $389 Big Agnes Fly Creek Tent stuffed inside of a green bag. The man fled the store into the parking lot.
