Northbrook Park District: Community Invited To Playground Party

The Northbrook community is invited to a Pop-Up Playground Party later this month to celebrate the renovation of Williamsburg Square Park, which now boasts new playground equipment, pickleball courts and more.

The celebration will take place from 5:30pm-6:30pm on Monday, September 23 at the park at 200 Lee Road, and will include a ribbon-cutting, giveaways, games, activities, snacks and a free prize drawing.

The park’s new amenities include a playground with structures for ages 2 to 5 and 5 to 12; improvements resulting in a sports court including two tennis courts, two new pickleball courts and a full basketball court; new pavement on the walking path; and new features such as a shelter with tables, a drinking fountain with a bottle filler and dog bowl, and more.

“We made improvements to all areas of the park, and we added pickleball courts for our community as the sport has exploded in the past few years. We also included replacing the fence that borders the neighbors and the creek for added safety and aesthetics,” Northbrook Park District Director of Parks and Properties James Kim said. “We hope this park is enjoyed by all.”

The Northbrook Park District received a $600,000 grant from the Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) Program, administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, to partially fund this project.

The project at Williamsburg Square Park is part of the Northbrook Park District’s annual Capital Improvement Plan, which also included renovations completed this summer at Greenfield Park and Wescott Park.

Kim thanked residents for their patience during this summer’s parks construction projects.

“We hope these new playgrounds give kids renewed excitement to come to our parks and enjoy being outside,” he said.
