Northbrook Woman To Await Trial at Home

Lela Bogdanov, accused of concealing toys in her skirt as part of a multi-million dollar family scheme posts bond.

A woman accused of stealing expensive toys from stores across America in a family scheme that netted them more than $4 million will await trial from her home in Northbrook.

That was the order from a federal judge Thursday in the case of Lela Bogdanov - who is accused, along with her husband, Branko, and daughter, Julia - of stealing from the shelves of stores in at least six states over a five month time period, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Bogdanov was released into the custody of her son, who was not charged, after the family posted a $1 million bond.

The three charged are accused of stealing American Girl dolls, boxes of Lego bricks, a children’s laptop and Furby robotic toy from the stores - concealing the items in Bogdanov’s “specially constructed long black skirt, which had secret compartments stitched in for the shoplifted loot,” the Sun-Times reports.
