Playground Equipment Found Spray-Painted: Northbrook Police Blotter

A citizen found spray-painted male genitalia and various phrases on the ground and playground equipment at a park, according to police.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

SUSPENDED REGISTRATION

Abel Mendez, of Chicago, is accused of having a defective taillight, suspended registration, improper use of registration, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 1:52 a.m. April 8, at Willow and Landwehr roads. A court date of April 27 was assigned.

RETAIL THEFT

  • Evely Sofia Chavez-Zambrano, of Cicero, is accused of retail theft, and was arrested at 12:23 p.m. April 8, in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard. The staff at the retail store said three subjects were walking around the store placing various items into a bag. The three subjects attempted to leave without paying. The staff stopped the subject holding the bag, later identified as Zambrano. The other subjects did not stop and left the area. Inside the bag were stolen sunglasses, belts, and a pair of shoes. A court date is set for May 4.
  • Mayra C. Javier-Itzkow, of Northbrook, is accused of retail theft, and was arrested at 2:27 p.m. April 10, in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard. Police said she left the retail store without paying for clothing items and sunglasses. A court date of May 12 was assigned.

DRUG POSSESSION

Jonathan Hernandez, of Northfield, is accused of having a defective headlight, driving while license suspended, illegal transportation of alcohol, illegal transportation of cannabis, possession of a controlled substance, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 9:58 p.m. April 10, in the 3500 block of Dundee Road. A court date of May 11 was assigned.

FORGERY

Marquithe M. Haggerty, of Chicago, had an active warrant out of Northbrook for check forgery, and was arrested at 2:45 p.m. April 13, by the Chicago Police Department. Northbrook police responded to Chicago and took Haggerty into custody. A future court date was had not been determined at the time of the report.

ASSAULT

Julio A. Alcantar, of Chicago, had a warrant for aggravated assault to a police officer, fleeing and eluding, use of an unsafe tire, driving without headlights, disobeying a stop sign, and was arrested at 1:29 p.m. April 13. A court date of May 4 was assigned.

INCIDENTS

SPEEDING

A Chicago man is accused of speeding (73 mph in a 45 mph zone), and was cited at 11:38 p.m. April 7, in the 3400 block of Willow Road. A court date of May 5 was assigned.

THEFT

  • A citizen called police at 10:20 p.m. April 7, to report someone stole a soccer ball that belonged to her son while they were at the park.
  • A customer at a retail store in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 3:45 p.m. April 9, she was shopping inside a retail store when a subject got close to her while she was looking at an item for sale. When the subject left, the complainant checked her purse that was propped open on the shopping cart. She noticed her Apple iPhone was missing from her purse. The subject could not be located in the store.

CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT

A citizen reported at 2:51 p.m. April 10, someone had spray-painted male genitalia and various phrases on the ground and playground equipment at a park in the 600 block of Berglund Place.
