NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
INCIDENTS
SCAM ATTEMPT
A Woodlawn Road resident reported on the afternoon of July 19 someone had mailed them a scam letter demanding a blackmail payment in the form of bitcoin or the person would release information to the complainant’s family.

SUSPICIOUS DELIVERY
An Oak Avenue resident reported that they had received a UPS package on June 5 containing a new iPhone X that they had not ordered.

- A Big Oak Lane resident reported on July 20 that someone had called up purporting to work for their electricity provider. The called claimed if money was not sent immediately, the resident's electricity would be cut off.
- A Randolph Drive resident reported on July 20 that they had gotten a phone call from someone purporting to be their grandson. The resident said they did not believe the caller and did not provide any information.
CAR BURGLARY
The owner of a car parked in the YMCA parking lot reported shortly after 2 p.m. on July 20 that someone had smashed a window and stolen a gym bag from inside their car.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone scratched the driver's side of a vehicle in the 1900 block of Big Oak Drive sometime prior to 1:16 p.m. on July 21.
CAR BURGLARY
Between 1 and 1:34 p.m. on July 23, someone reportedly broke into a car parked outside the Northbrook Sports Center at 1730 Pfingsten Road and stole a purse.
CHECK FRAUD
A Dunsten Circle resident reported at 4:34 p.m. on July 23 that they had posted items for sale on Craigslist. Someone offered to buy the items and sent a traveler’s check for an amount larger than the asking price. The resident deposited the check and sent the overage back to the buyer before they were alerted that it had been a scam.
VEHICULAR TRESPASSING
A resident in the 1300 block of Waters Edge Lane reported at 5:51 a.m. on July 24 that someone had gotten into an unlocked car during the previous night. Nothing was reported stolen at the time of the report.
IDENTITY THEFT
A Brittany Road resident reported on the morning of July 25 that they had gotten several billing statements for credit card purchases they never made.
ELECTRONIC HARASSMENT
A Shermer Road resident reported on the afternoon of July 26 that they had gotten a harassing text message from an unknown number.
STOLEN CAR
A resident in the 2200 block of Chestnut Street reported at 9:53 a.m. on July 27 that someone had stolen an unlocked car that had keys left inside during the prior night.
THEFT
A resident of the 1500 block of Suzann Terrace reported on the morning of July 27 that someone had stolen a package from their front porch after it had been delivered.
EGGING
A resident in the 1400 block of Juli Lyn Lane reported on the morning of July 28 that someone had thrown eggs on two parked cars during the previous night.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Three residents in the 4300 block of Terri-Lyn Lane reported that someone damaged the windows of parked cars with rocks sometime prior to 3:30 a.m. on July 29.
RETAIL THEFT
A staffer at Saks Off 5th at 127 Skokie Blvd. reported at 4:12 p.m. on July 19 that a woman was seen running out of the store with "numerous" stolen items.
CAR BURGLARY
The driver of a car parked in the 2300 block of Wood Drive reported at 7:28 a.m. on July 30 they discovered the front and back doors of the vehicle left open. A bag containing school supplies had been stolen from inside.
THEFT
Someone stole $440 from inside a locker at the Bernard Wagner Jewish Community Center at 300 Revere Drive sometime prior to 9:47 a.m. on July 30.
THEFT
A resident in the 2300 block of Waukegan Road reported at 2:31 p.m. on July 30 that someone had stolen a wallet.
SHOPLIFTING
- Staff at the CVS Pharmacy at 936 Willow Road reported around 8 p.m. on July 30 that a woman had stolen various medications from a shelf and left the store.
- Staff at the Walgreens at 1050 Waukegan Road reported at 1:21 a.m. on July 31 that a "subject" stole a "basketful" of unspecified merchandise.
- Staff at the Louis Vuitton store at 1188 Lake Cook Road reported at 1:22 p.m. on Aug. 1 that a man and a woman distracted an employee before stealing a wallet sold for about $700.
CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole a garage door opener from inside an unlocked car parked in the 4000 block of Michelline Lane prior to 1 p.m. on Aug. 1.
THEFT
Someone stole a Trek mountain bicycle that had been left unlocked and unattended in a bike rack near the intersection of Shermer and Meadow roads.
THEFT
A resident in the 300 block of Basswood Drive reported at 8:45 p.m. on Aug. 1 that they had noticed several items had recently been discovered missing. The resident told police they believe an unknown person has been stealing the items.
BURGLARY
An employee at the Grill House at 3061 Dundee Road reported at 6:20 a.m. on Aug. 2 they arrived for work to find an open door at the eatery. Inside, they found a safe had been "cut open" with receipts and cash missing from inside.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Samuel Ortiz, 22, of the 8900 block of La Crosse Avenue in Skokie, was arrested at 8:10 p.m. on July 19 near the intersection of Dundee and Shermer roads and charged with possession of a controlled substance. Police were called to the area for a report of a reckless driver, and when they arrived they noticed a vehicle commit a traffic offense. The officer was assisted by a police dog, who helped locate several baggies containing various pills believed to be illegal drugs. In addition to the felony drug charge, Ortiz was also ticketed for improper lane usage.
Antonio Banks, 49, of the 1600 block of North Sheridan in Wilmette, was arrested at 4:30 p.m. on July 20 at the Mariano's, 784 Skokie Blvd. and charged with retail theft after staff said he stole liquor from the store.
Shelagh M. Kennedy, 40, of the 8100 block of North Harding Avenue in Skokie, was arrested at 2:21 p.m. on July 27 at the Mariano's at 784 Skokie Blvd. and charged with retail theft after he was seen placing unspecified items in a bag and walked out of the store. Arresting officers learned she also had an active warrant from Cook County.
Joyce D. Piper, 68, of the 4900 block of North Bernard Street in Albany Park, was arrested at 2:34 p.m. on July 27, also at the 784 Skokie Blvd. Mariano's after staff said she put unspecified items in a basket and left the store.
Sam A. Calascibetta, 30, of the 2800 block of Landwehr Road in Northbrook, was arrested shortly before 4 p.m. on July 27 in the 700 block of Skokie Boulevard. Police were told he was seen hiding items and stealing them from a store. He was found a short distance away and found to have an active arrest warrant issued by Lake County. He tried to run away from the arresting officers but was later caught.
Dalton A. Eggerson, 29, of the 1600 block of West LeMoyne Street in Chicago, was arrested around 6 p.m. on July 28 at the DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse at 181 Skokie Blvd. and charged with retail theft. Store staff told police he was believed to have previous shoplifted from the location and had returned to steal more items. Police were told he again hid items and left without paying for them. He was found to have one pair of stolen boots, police said.
Alan Sanchez, 24, of the 1100 block of North 16th Avenue in Melrose Park, was arrested at 4:48 p.m. on July 29 at a gas station in the 1900 block of Willow Road after police were called to the area for a report of a damaged, smoking vehicle. Police found the driver and learned he had recently been involved in a traffic crash "at an unknown location." The officer determined the driver was intoxicated and placed him under arrest.
A 34-year-old Park Ridge man was arrested at 7:39 a.m. near the intersection of Landwehr Road and Moon Hill Drive and charged with driving with a revoked license following a traffic stop. He was also cited for improper lane usage.
Jacqueline D. Newman, 30, of the 600 block of West 65th Street in Westmont, was arrested at 7:39 p.m. on July 31 following a traffic stop and charged with retail theft from the CVS at 936 Willow Road, four active arrest warrants – three from Will County and one from Cook County. While searching the vehicle, police turned up "various minor amounts" of drugs.
