Shoplifter Assaults Customer; Furniture Found In Pool: Blotter

A shoplifter confronted the customer who turned them in at a store; furniture at a gym was found in the pool: Northbrook Police Blotter.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

STOLEN AUTO

A resident in the 2700 block of Canterbury Drive reported that during the overnight hours of July 8-9 someone took their unlocked vehicle from their driveway.

TRESPASS TO VEHICLE

A resident in the 2700 block of Canterbury Road called police at 7:34 July 9 to report someone entered their unlocked parked car during the overnight hours. Nothing was reported missing from the vehicle.

BURGLARY TO AUTO

A resident in the 2700 block of Canterbury Road reported July 9 someone entered their unlocked parked vehicle and took a bag containing around $30.

IDENTITY THEFT

  • A Kensington Avenue resident called police at 8:54 a.m. July 10 to report they checked their credit report and found that several new credit accounts had been opened without their knowledge or consent.
  • A Prestwick Lane resident reported on July 7 that someone had used their information to schedule several travel excursions without their permission.
  • A Riverfalls Drive resident called police at 2:09 p.m. July 10 to report they received notification from the Illinois Department of Employment Security that someone used their information to file for unemployment benefits without their permission.
  • A Shermer Road resident reported at 11:43 a.m. July 14 receiving notification from the Illinois Department of Employment Security that their information was used to file for unemployment benefits without their permission.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO A VEHICLE

A customer at Lifetime Fitness, 1100 block of Skokie Boulevard, reported at 10:46 a.m. July 11 someone scratched the front door of their vehicle while it was parked.

THEFT

A resident in the 1200 block of Randolph called police at 2:05 p.m. July 12 to report that after moving to a new residence with the assistance of professional movers, they realized that they were missing several items.

SOLICITOR COMPLAINT

A resident at Brian and Cobblewood drives reported at 4:51 p.m. July 12 a suspicious male solicitor came to their door claiming to be from the homeowners' association. The male said that they needed to inspect the inside of the complainant’s residence. The male was not allowed entrance to the residence and left the area.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

A resident in the 600 block of Anthony Trail called police at 8:42 p.m. July 12 to report that they returned home to find a forced open door. The complainant said that the residence was entered and rummaged through.

ASSAULT

A customer at Nordstrom Rack, 100 block of Skokie Boulevard, reported at 12:40 p.m. July 13 that they told store officials that they saw someone taking stickers off of items in an attempt to shoplift them. The person was stopped and released after paying for the items. A short time later, the person began yelling at the complainant over what had transpired as they were getting into their vehicle to leave the area.

THREATENING TELEPHONE CALL

A resident of Quail Lane called police at 11:13 p.m. July 13 to report they received a telephone call from someone who began threatening them.

RETAIL THEFT

  • An employee at Bloomingdale's Outlet, 100 block of Skokie Boulevard, reported at 1:56 p.m. July 14 a man in their 20s entered the store and asked the sales associate to retrieve several items so that they could look at them. The associate did, and the man then asked to look at an additional item. The man left the counter area when the associate went to retrieve the additional item. The man left the area with the several requested items and did not pay for the items prior to leaving the store.
  • An employee of Neiman Marcus, 1400 block of Lake Cook Road, called police at 2:12 p.m. July 14 to report a man asked a sales associate to see several pairs of men’s shoes. The sales associate supplied the man with the requested shoes then had to tend to another customer. When the associate returned to the area where they had assisted the man, they had left the store with the shoes and did not pay for them.

VANDALISM

An employee at the Meadowhill Aquatic Center, 1500 block of Maple Avenue, reported that during the overnight hours of July 15 someone entered the pool area after closing and pushed pool furniture into the pool.
