Northbrook Police Blotter: April 6 - April 12

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those arrested on criminal charges, which merely represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Just because someone is arrested does not mean they are necessarily guilty of anything.

INCIDENTS

THEFT
Someone stole the purse containing a phone, wallet and credit cards, from a person in the 300 block of Revere Drive, police were told at 10:11 a.m. on April 8.

FORGERY
A employee at Lewis Carpets in the 1800 block of Skokie Boulevard reported on the afternoon of April 9 that a company check had been altered.

THEFT
A resident of the 2500 block of Anne Lane reported at 5:51 p.m. on April 10 that a package delivered by FedEx was missing a phone that had been purchased.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident of the 2400 block of Hampton Lane reported at 6:31 p.m. on April 10 they found that someone had broken open their front door and ransacked several items during the day.

IDENTITY THEFT
A resident of the 3200 block of Sunset Trail reported on the evening of April 10 that someone had accessed their credit information and opened up several unauthorized account.

THEFT
A resident in the 700 block of Skokie Boulevard reported on the night of April 11 that they couldn't find their laptop after moving. Apple informed them that the computer was somewhere in Arizona, where the resident said they had never traveled.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Raul Salazar-Sanchez, 40, of the 5800 block of West Diversey Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 7:35 p.m. on April 5 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and with a blood alcohol concentration above 0.08 following a traffic stop near the intersection of Pfingsten Road and Woodland Drive after police saw him commit several traffic offenses. He was also issued two citations for improper lane usage and one for transportation of open alcohol.

David Tanner, 49, of the 300 block of South Milwaukee Avenue in Wheeling, was arrested at 12:08 a.m. on April 6 and charged with possession of less than 15 grams of cocaine and driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop near the intersection of Milwaukee Avenue and Dundee Road. Police pulled him over for an obstructed license plate, found he was driving without a valid license and found cocaine on him while he was being taken into custody.

A 24-year-old Elk Grove Village man was arrested at 12:20 a.m. on April 7 and charged with excessive speeding – 35 mph over the speed limit – following a traffic stop near the intersection of Pfingsten and Willow roads. He was also ticketed for running a red light, driving using an electronic device and driving without proof of insurance.

Szymon P. Koptya, 20, of the 4200 block of North Austin in Chicago, was arrested at 11:23 p.m. on April 8 following a traffic stop near the intersection of Sanders and Willow roads and charged with possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of cannabis. A patrolling officer noticed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and pulled it over. The officer smelled marijuana coming from the car and received permission to search it from the driver, finding "several small bags of controlled substances" around the passenger, Koptya. He also had an outstanding Cook County arrest warrant.

A 31-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 1:47 p.m. on April 9 near the intersection of Dundee Road and Skokie Boulevard and charged with driving with a revoked license following a traffic stop. He was also issued citations for no proof of insurance and no seatbelt.

Roger D. Allen, 55, of the 9000 block of Knox Avenue in Skokie, was arrested at 6:13 p.m. on April 9 near the intersection of Dundee Road and Milwaukee Avenue and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, with a blood alcohol concentration above 0.08 after people called police about his driving. Police found him swerving around the road and pulled him over. He was also ticketed for not having insurance and using lanes improperly.

Juan C. Melgoza, 43, of the 1200 block of Union Court in Wheeling, was arrested at 12:25 p.m. on April 10 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and with a blood alcohol concentration above 0.08. Police on patrol noticed him commit traffic violations. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage.

A 28-year-old Buffalo Grove woman arrested at 11:54 p.m. on April 10 near the intersection of Dundee and Midway roads and charged with driving with a suspended license. Police pulled her over for a damaged license plate and learned her license had been suspended.

Lindsay A. Tortorello, 57, of the block of South Bishop Street in Chicago, was arrested at 1:49 p.m. on April 11 at the Mariano's in the 700 block of Skokie Boulevard and charged with aggravated battery and retail theft. Police were told she had been seen picking out various items from around the store and hide them in bags. An employee reportedly tried to stop her as she tried to leave without paying. She pushed and kicked the employee, police were told. She had taken about $300 worth of merchandise and was latter found to have an outstanding arrest warrant from Vernon Hills police. Court records indicate a bond forfeiture warrant was issued March 27 in connection with a retail theft charge connected to an Oct. 10, 2016 incident.
