NORTHBROOK, IL — A call for nominations is now open for the Northbrook Park District's Hall of Fame, which recognizes local standout athletes and volunteers. More than 60 athletes and volunteers have been inducted since 1978 into the park district's Sports Hall of Fame and Volunteer Hall of Fame.

Nominations will be accepted through April 25. They will be reviewed by the park district's Hallof Fame committee, whose recommendation will be examined by the park district’s board of commissioners. The board then votes to approve the inductees.

According to the Northbrook Park District, the Sports Hall of Fame recognizes the accomplishments of athletes who either live or lived in Northbrook, or trained at a Northbrook Park District facility for at least three years. Nominees must have participated in a sport at the national, international, Olympic or professional levels, and must meet at least one of the following criteria:

"Our Hall of Fame ceremonies are such a joyful celebration of athletes and volunteers whose accomplishments have made an indelible mark on our community," said Michael Schyman, Hall of Fame Committee Chairman, whose 16 years of service as a park district board member will come to an end in May. "There are so many positive memories I will treasure about my time in office, and having the chance to honor new inductees will always stand among the top."

Relatives, friends and community members will be invited to the induction ceremony, which has taken place at the park district’s Heritage Oaks Golf Club in Northbrook in recent years. More information will be shared about the 2025 ceremony in the months ahead.
