Tentative District 28 Budget Includes Increased Costs, Revenue

A tentative budget plan for Northbrook School District 28 in 2015-16 indicates a 5 percent spending increase from last year.

The board of education has adopted the tentative budget, which includes $36.7 million in total expenditures, including a 5.5 percent increase in salaries and 5.7 percent increase in insurance costs.

Special education tuition costs will decrease 2 percent with the opening of the new preschool program, but transportation costs will increase 14 percent due to an additional service for preschool students, a new overall busing contract and special education transportation services.

Total revenues are expected to see an increase of 3.55 percent, based on consumer price index, tax refunds and new property growth.
