Thief Sprays Chemicals At Security Officer: Northbrook Police Blotter
Prior to the attack, two women had used wire cutters to remove the anti-theft cables from coats they were attempting to steal.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
ARRESTS
SUSPENDED/REVOKED DRIVER'S LICENSE
- Seong W. Choi, of Glenview, is accused of driving with a suspended license, suspended registration, operating of an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 9:57 p.m. Jan. 6, in the 1600 block of Dundee Road. A court date of Jan. 25 was assigned.
- Davonte C. McQuiller, of Chicago, is accused of having a suspended registration, driving while license suspended, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 12:06 a.m. Jan. 12, at Dundee and Milwaukee roads. A court date of March 1 was assigned.
UNLAWFUL USE OF WEAPON

Justin C. Mohamed, of Aurora, Colorado, is accused of unlawful use of a weapon, and was arrested at 12:05 p.m. Jan. 8, at Shermer and Waukegan roads. Police observed a 2012 black Cadillac with stolen license plates. The officers stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver, Mohamed. During the traffic stop, Mohamed advised the officers there was a handgun inside the vehicle. When the officers retrieved the handgun, it was determined it was stolen out of Mississippi. A court date was pending at the time of the report.
RETAIL THEFT

The loss prevention staff at a store in the 1400 block of Lake Cook Road reported at 11:05 a.m. Jan. 9, two females were attempting to steal coats. The pair had used wire cutters to remove the anti-theft cables from the coats during the theft. The two were identified as Destiny S. Jackson, of Chicago, and Nyla L. Pace, of Harvey. When the staff approached the pair, Jackson sprayed a chemical irritant into the face of one of the staff members. Both were eventually arrested.
Jackson is accused of aggravated battery to a private security officer, retail theft, obstructing identification, possession of theft detection device remover and mob action. Pace is accused of retail theft, possession of theft detection device remover and mob action. A court date was pending at the time of the report.
- The staff at a retail store in the 200 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 12:55 p.m. Jan. 6, two subjects stole North Face and Nike jackets. The subjects fled in a blue and silver Chevy Malibu.
- The staff at a retail store in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard called police at 1:51 p.m. Jan. 6, to report two women entered the store and walked over to the handbag display. The staff recognized the subjects from previous retail thefts. The subjects attempted to steal six handbags, but were stopped by the staff at the exit. The staff was able to retrieve the stolen handbags. The subjects fled the scene in a black Mercedes.
VANDALISM
A resident in the 1700 block of Happ Road reported at 9 a.m. Jan. 7, someone detonated several fireworks inside his roadside mailbox.
FLEEING TO ELUDE
- Police observed a blue 2022 Audi Q7 at 11:21 a.m. Jan. 7, that had been used for multiple crimes driving on Shermer Road. The officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but it fled at a high rate of speed out of Northbrook.
- Police saw a 2021 white Chevy Trax driving on Dundee Road, near Skokie Boulevard, on Jan. 8. The license plates indicated the vehicle was wanted out of Cicero for fleeing and eluding. The officer stopped the vehicle and started to walk up to the driver’s window. The vehicle fled the stop at a high rate of speed out of Northbrook.
- Police responded to the 1300 block of Candlewood Hill on Jan. 9 for a report of subjects attempting to open car doors while parked in their driveways. As the officers arrived, they observed a white Honda sedan. The license plates indicated the vehicle was stolen out of Lake Zurich. The officers attempted to catch up to the vehicle, but the vehicle drove away at a high rate of speed out of Northbrook. Several residents in the area indicated their cars were broken into and items were taken.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO VEHICLE
A citizen reported at 12:15 p.m. Jan. 8, that someone damaged the tires of his 2015 gray Ram 1500 by cutting them with a sharp object while it was parked in a parking lot in the 1100 block of Willow Road.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY
While on patrol at 8:50 a.m. Jan. 9, police found a shattered rear glass door to an abandoned building in the 1300 block of Techny Road. The building was checked, but no one was inside.
THEFT ATTEMPT
A Southbridge Lane resident reported at 7:23 a.m. Jan. 11, that he received an email advising him to contact an antivirus company at a particular phone number. The complainant called the number and spoke to a subject who said his personal information was compromised. The subject advised him to go to the bank, take out a $40,000 cashier’s check and mail it to an address that the complainant thought was a bank. The complainant sent the check. Northbrook officers assisted the complainant with stopping the delivery of the check.
THEFT
A Skokie Boulevard resident reported at 9:07 a.m. Jan. 11, he was selling clothing through an online platform. A subject contacted him to purchase a pair of pants. The complainant received an email from what he thought was PayPal indicating the money was sent. The complainant, without verifying the purchase, sent the clothing. He realized later the email was fraudulent.
BURGLARY TO VEHICLE
Two citizens reported at 8:11 p.m. Jan. 10, someone broke their car windows and stole their purses. Each purse contained several credit cards, checkbooks, phone and money. The vehicles were a 2021 white Volvo XC40 and a 2022 red Mini Countryman.
IDENTITY THEFT
A Skokie Boulevard called police at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 5, to report someone attempted to pose as her deceased husband while trying to change the email and telephone number on her bank account. The subject used a fake identification card with her husband’s information on it. After the bank confirmed the information with the complainant, the request was denied.
