Traffic Bust Leads To Warrant Arrest: Northbrook Police Blotter
The driver reportedly two active warrants out of Cook County for theft, driving while license suspended, according to police.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
ARRESTS
DRUG POSSESSION
Viktoriya Shvets, of Wheeling, is accused of possession of a controlled substance, and was arrested at 9:39 a.m. June 30, at Dundee Road and Ash Lane. Police had stopped a car for having an expired license plate sticker. A Wheeling Police Department K9 found the substance, identified as heroin, on Shvets. She was a passenger in the car, according to police. A court date of July 26 was assigned.

THEFT BY DECEPTION
Martin W. Burdick, of Northbrook, had a warrant for theft by deception, and was arrested at 9:31 p.m. June 30, in the 1400 block of Landwehr Road. It was alleged that Burdick took $2,000 from the victim for home repair, yet never returned to do the work. The court date is set for July 19.

SPEEDING
Denisia A. Carnalla, of Chicago, is accused of speeding (76 mph in a 45 mph zone), having a suspended registration, driving while license suspended, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 8:06 p.m. July 1, in the 800 block of Dundee Road. A court date of July 18 was assigned.
DRIVING WHILE LICENSE SUSPENDED/REVOKED
Alejandro A. Chang, of Waukegan, is accused of having suspended license plates, driving while license suspended, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, two active warrants out of Cook County for theft, driving while license suspended, and was arrested at 3:45 a.m. July 2, in the 1000 block of Skokie Boulevard. A court date for the Northbrook charges is set for Aug. 15. Chang was turned over to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office regarding the arrest warrants.

INCIDENTS
FLEE OR ELUDE
- Police responded to the area of Lake Cook Road and Skokie Boulevard at 3:05 a.m. July 1, for a wanted vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, a 2007 black Jeep Grand Cherokee, had fled from other police agencies and the owner had an active arrest warrant. The officer saw the vehicle traveling eastbound on Lake Cook Road. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, it fled at a high rate of speed.
- Police responded to the area of Waukegan and Willow roads at 1:01 a.m. July 6, where a black Infiniti was seen driving. The vehicle was suspected to be involved in catalytic converter thefts. The officer located the vehicle behind a business. The vehicle fled the area at a high rate of speed after the officer activated the emergency lights.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY
A witness contacted the police department at 11:45 a.m. July 1, to report a glass door was shattered at a closed business in the 1600 block of Shermer Road. When officers arrived, they found the glass door shattered and the door frame was pried. It appeared that no one entered the business.
RETAIL THEFT
The staff of a retail store in the 1400 block of Lake Cook Road called police at 12:09 p.m. July 1, to report someone concealed a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses and ran out of the store without paying.
RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY
A resident in the 2100 block of Mallard Drive reported at 8:36 p.m. July 4, someone had broke into his family’s house. The subject gained access through the rear door. The complainant noticed jewelry, handbags, clothing and paintings missing.
THEFT SCAM
- A Violet Lane resident called police at 1:27 p.m. July 5, to report they received a phone call from a subject claiming to be with a local utility company. After speaking with the complainant, the subject convinced him that he could lower his bill. The complainant followed the subject’s request by purchasing over $300 worth of gift cards and providing the card numbers to the subject. Afterward, the complainant realized it was a scam.
- A Pheasant Creek Drive resident reported at 5:50 p.m. July 5, he received a text from what he thought was his supervisor. It instructed him to purchase $1,000 worth of gift cards and send the images back to him. After the complainant completed the task, he found out later it was a scam.
