Train Fatally Strikes Pedestrian In Northbrook

An Amtrak train on the Milwaukee District North Line killed a 53-year-old Northbrook man near the Metra station Sunday morning.

UPDATE: On Monday, the Cook County Medical Examiner identified the man as 53-year-old lawyer and Northbrook resident, Steven J. Rizzi.

NORTHBROOK, IL — An Amtrak train struck and killed a pedestrian near the Northbrook Metra station shortly after 9 a.m. Sunday. It halted trains in both direction and led to delays of 45 minutes on the Milwaukee District North Line, a Metra spokesperson said. Metra police are investigating the incident because it occurred on Metra-owned tracks. According to Amtrak, Hiawatha Train #332, running Milwaukee to Chicago, was involved in a "trespasser incident" at a crossing that killed a pedestrian. The speed limit for tracks in the area is 79 mph, an Amtrak spokesperson said. The nearest station at which Amtrak stations stop is Glenview, three miles east of the collision.

There were no injuries reported to the 126 passengers or crew, and the train was delayed two hours, Amtrak said.
