Robbery Charges; Office Break-in; Cars Rummaged Through: Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

FRAUD

  • A Huehl Road resident reported around 1:24 p.m. May 1 that a subject opened a credit account using their information and placed two orders without their permission.
  • A Block Shawnee Trail resident called police at 3:30 p.m. May 3 to report they received an email which they believed was from Apple. After responding to the email, the resident called Apple and was informed that they had fallen for a phishing scam. The resident was advised to alert their credit accounts and to monitor their statements.

SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES

A Block Bernay Drive resident called police around 1:24 p.m. May 1 to report that they received an email from a person demanding bitcoin payment or they would release fraudulent information about the resident. The resident did not proceed with the request and was advised to change their account information.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON

  • A resident in the 2500 block of Shannon Road reported around 9:04 a.m. May 3 that they received an alert from their ring doorbell. The resident stated that a person with a flashlight was observed on the camera. When the resident’s security light turned on the person left. It appears nothing was taken.
  • A resident in the 1100 block of Blackthorn Lane called police on May 5 to report that while retrieving their garbage cans, two unknown men approached and asked the resident to go to the backyard to look at trees for trimming. When the resident refused, one of the men followed them to the front of the residence, then left.

BURGLARY

An employee at a business in the 2700 block of Dundee Road called police regarding an incident between May 2-4 where when they arrived at their office, they found that unknown people(s) had gained entry. Various business related items were reported missing.

CRIMINAL TRESPASS

  • A resident in the 100 block of Fairview Lane reported at 1:55 a.m. May 7 that an unknown person(s) entered their unlocked vehicle. Nothing was reported missing.
  • A resident in the 200 block of Estate Drive called police at 2:29 a.m. May 7 to report that unknown person(s) entered their garage and two unlocked vehicles. Nothing was reported missing.
  • Officers on routine patrol at 2:33 a.m. May 7 in the 4100 block of Pamela Lane observed several vehicles in the area had been entered during the overnight hours. A total of seven reports were taken. Complainants reported that their unlocked vehicles had been entered and rummaged through. Various items were reported taken from several of the vehicles.

CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT

  • A Northbrook Park District employee reported around 9:52 a.m. May 7 that spray paint was used on the west side of the tennis courts at some time between April 30-May 7 at Oaklane Park.
  • An officer on patrol around 3:34 p.m. May 7 observed that a sign was tagged with a black-colored marker at Techny Prairie Park, 1700 block of Techny Road.

IDENTITY THEFT

An Adirondack Drive resident called police around 11:06 a.m. May 7 to report an unknown person used their information to open a credit account without their authorization.

ARRESTS

Four men were arrested and charged with robbery in connection with an incident that occurred May 2 in the 2900 block of Harbor Lane. Christian Adams, 18, of Glenview; Tyler Szerlong, 18, of Glenview; William Walker, 19, of Chicago; and Shalom Moon, 18, of Highland Park; were arrested in Glenview.

The complainant reported that one of the men was in front of their residence and that unknown people took their personal belongings against their will. Officers responded to the area and an emergency message was broadcast via police radio. A short time later, people matching the description given were stopped by Glenview officers. The men were positively identified and subsequently charged with one count each of robbery.
