Northbrook Police Blotter: July 6 - July 12

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
INCIDENTS
CAR BURGLARIES

- A resident in the 1300 block of Regent Drive reported on July 6 that someone burglarized a rental car during the previous night and stole a bag containing various items.
- A resident in the 3200 block of Old Mill Road reported on July 6 that someone had gotten into their vehicles during the previous night but nothing was stolen.
- A resident in the 3200 block of Old Mill Road reported on July 6 that someone got into their car the previous night and stole a wallet from inside.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO VEHICLES
- A resident in the 2200 block of Maple Avenue reported that someone threw an object through the rear window of their parked vehicle sometime between 9 p.m. July 6 and 8:43 a.m. on July 7.
- A resident of the 1300 block of Greenbrier Lane reported around 10 a.m. on July 7 that someone threw an object through a rear door window of a parked car.
- A resident of the 1200 block of Ridge Road reported that someone threw and object through a back window of a parked vehicle between 4 p.m. on July 6 and 10:15 a.m. on July 7.
- A resident in the 2500 block of Walters Avenue reported at 1:35 a.m. on July 8 that several people were seen damaging their vehicle. The suspects fled on foot before being identified.
- A resident of the 2000 block of Illinois road reported at 1:07 p.m. on July 9 that someone damaged their car with a rock.
RETAIL THEFTS

- Staff at the TJ Maxx, 49 Skokie Blvd., reported at 10:30 a.m. on July 7 that a man was seen cutting security cables off of purses and was suspected of stealing two bags from the store worth about $240.
- Staff at the CVS Pharmacy, 936 Willow Road, reported at 7:44 p.m. on July 8 that someone stole an unknown number of over-the-counter drugs and left.
COMMERCIAL BURGLAR ALARM/CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Police responded to a burglar alarm at Dehne Lawn & Leisure, 1930 Techny Road, around 6:51 p.m. on July 9. When officers arrived, they found a glass door had been shattered. A search of the business did not turn up any intruders and it was not known if anything was stolen at the time of the report.
THEFT
A shopper in the 4100 block of Dundee Road reported at 6:31 p.m. on July 12 that they were contacted by their bank to ask if they approved a large purchase at an unspecified store in Wheeling. The shopper checked for their wallet and learned it had been stolen, but it was not known when or where it was taken.
THEFT
At 7:52 p.m. on July 10, police were told that an unidentified man picked up a wallet with about $100 and various identification cards that had been dropped in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road and walked away.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
An employee in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road reported at 9:24 p.m. on July 10 that they found the front headlight and hood to their car had been damaged while they were at work.
HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 0-100 block of Avon Road reported that when a cleaning person arrived at their home on the morning of July 11 they found the rear sliding door had been opened. When the resident returned home they discovered a safe had been opened and items were missing from inside.
VANDALISM
A resident in the 2000 block of Brentwood Road reported that someone threw numerous eggs at their vehicle between 10 p.m. on July 11 and 7 a.m. on July 12.
THEFT
A resident in the 2200 block of Founders Drive reported on July 12 that someone stole a tennis bracelet from a jewelry box. It was not known when it may have been taken.
THEFT
A resident in the 900 block of Shermer Road reported that someone stole a gas-powered blower from a work site between 1:30 and 2 p.m. on July 12.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 61-year-old Northbrook man was arrested at 9:27 p.m. on July 6 following a traffic stop near the intersection of Rutgers Road and Sanders Lane and charged with driving with a suspended license after he was pulled over for a traffic violation. He was also cited for not having insurance and speeding.
Randy N. Jones, 53, of the 9600 block of Golf Terrace in Des Plaines, was arrested at 10:08 p.m. on July 6 following a traffic stop near the intersection of Willow and Old Willow road and charged with possession of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license. A search of the car turned up two baggies of an unspecified controlled substance. He was also cited with improper lane usage, no insurance and improper registration.
Briana T. Mcelroy, 21, of the 6300 block of North Drake Avenue in Chicago, was arrested around 8 p.m. at the Northbrook Court Lord & Taylor, 1455 Lake Cook Road, and charged with retail theft after police were told she stole money from a cash register.
