Woman Pushes Cop Outside Grocery Store: Northbrook Police Blotter
Police were responding to a reported disturbance in front of the store when the incident occurred.
NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
ARRESTS
SUSPENDED DRIVER'S LICENSE
- Nicholas C. Blandon, of Waukegan, is accused of having a suspended registration, driving while license suspended, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 12:33 p.m. Jan. 9, in the 1800 block of Holste Road. A court date of Feb. 4 was assigned.
- Demejah L. Gilbert, of Vernon Hills, is accused of failure to display a front license plate, driving while license suspended, and was arrested at 4:14 p.m. Jan. 10. A court date of Feb. 17 was assigned. In addition, Dasharra J. Cokley, of Vernon Hills, a front seat passenger, had three active warrants out of Cook County for retail theft, was taken into custody and the Cook County Jail.
BATTERY

Gia A. Panesso, of Skokie, is accused of battery, and was arrested at 6:24 p.m. Jan. 11, in the 4700 block of Skokie Boulevard. Police had responded to a disturbance in front of a grocery store. While speaking to Panesso, she pushed an officer in the chest to walk away. The officer was not injured. A court date of Feb. 6 was assigned.
THEFT

Pablo Medina, of Prospect Heights, is accused of theft, and was arrested at 10:09 p.m. Jan. 11, in the 4100 block of Dundee Road. An employee of a fitness center said someone had stolen his Apple Air pods from the front desk where he worked. After reviewing the surveillance footage, two males can be seen walking up to the front desk when none of the employees were looking. Medina was identified as the person that had assisted the co-defendant, Angel Valencia Alvarado, with the theft. Medina turned himself in and was charged with theft. He was trespassed from the facility. A court date of Feb. 6 was assigned.

INCIDENTS
CREDIT CARD FRAUD
- A Rudolph Road resident reported at 11:51 a.m. Jan. 9, someone had hacked into his credit card account and used his mileage points to make an unlawful purchase out of New York for an Apple iPad. The complainant also knew his account was taken over when his email account was hacked, and he was locked out of it.
- A Techny Road resident reported at 11:14 a.m. Jan. 10, that someone had stolen her mother's credit card and had used it at various locations throughout Evanston and Chicago. The stolen credit card was fraudulently used at shoes stores and for an Uber ride. Total amount charged on the card was approximately $1,000.
RETAIL THEFT
- The manager of a grocery store in the 1100 block of Church Street reported at 9:53 a.m. Jan. 11, that a female had come into the store and grabbed four bottles of scotch and tequila. She placed the bottles in her purse and walked out of the store without paying. She was seen fleeing in a white Ford. The total value of the stolen bottles was $409.96.
- The loss prevention staff at a retail store in the 1400 block of Lake Cook Road reported at 5:19 p.m. Jan. 15, a female had come into the store and grabbed a cashmere cape scarf and a skirt having a total value of $4,703. The female walked out of the store without paying for the item
THEFT
- A staff member of a moving company in the 300 block of Era Drive reported at 5:02 p.m. Jan. 13, that he had collected $1,600 as payment for a recent job. The staff member had come back to the moving company's office and placed his backpack containing the money on the floor of a hallway while he worked inside the office. When he returned to retrieve his backpack, the backpack was open, and the money was stolen. According to the complainant, there was only one other employee in the building at the time.
- A resident in the 1800 block of Butternut Lane reported at 5:11 p.m. Jan. 14, someone had stolen an Xbox console and controllers from his house. He advised the officer that the house was under construction, and several workers were in and out of the house. The video game system was worth $650.
BANK FRAUD
A Butternut Lane resident reported at 4:31 p.m. Jan. 14, that a person was impersonating him walked into an Oklahoma bank and withdrew $8,900 out of his checking account. The person also tried to withdraw an additional $48,000, but was denied. The complainant is working with the bank to get the money reimbursed.
FORGERY
A resident in the 2100 block of Mallard Drive reported at 4:52 p.m. Jan. 15, that he had mailed a check for payment in the amount of $32.76. Yet, when the check was cashed, it had been changed to $10,500 and to a different payee. The complainant is working with the bank to get the money reimbursed and to see who might have changed the information on the check.
