NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone broke into a vehicle in the 2400 block of Maple Avenue at some point prior to 12:15 a.m. Oct. 4 by smashing a back passenger window. Nothing appeared to be have been stolen at the time of the report.

SHOPLIFTING

  • Staff at the Dick's Sporting Goods, 275 Skokie Blvd., reported that man or boy stole two pairs of shoes at some point prior to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 5.
  • Staff at the Bloomingdale's outlet, 145 Skokie Blvd., reported around 2:30 p.m. Oct. 6 that three women or girls cut the cables on several jackets before stealing them.
  • Staff at the Ulta Beauty, 936 Willow Road, reported around 10:30 a.m. Oct. 10 that a woman or girl filled up a bag with various fragrance items and stolen them.

THEFTS

  • A Prestwick Lane resident reported on the evening of Oct. 7 that they had been locked out of an online bank account and told to contact technical support for help. The resident was told to call another number to repair the issue, and the person who picked up at that number told the resident to buy a pair of gift cards and call back with the information. The resident bought the gift cards and provided the numbers. When the person on the phone asked the resident to buy more gift cards, the resident recognized they were being scammed and contacted police.
  • Someone stole several pieces of lawn equipment from a home in the 1800 block of Thornwood Lane between 4:25 and 4:40 p.m. Oct. 9.

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY
A resident in the 2000 block of Thornwood Lane reported around 9:30 p.m. Oct. 8 that they heard someone trying to break into their home. At first the resident thought it could have been a relative but confirmed it was not.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone broke into two unlocked cars parked in the 1100 block of White Mountain Drive between 8 p.m. Oct. 8 and 6 a.m. Oct. 9, stealing a wallet containing gift cards and various personal items from inside.
  • Someone burglarized three unlocked cars in the 3400 block of Tamarind Drive between 10 p.m. Oct. 8 and 6 a.m. Oct. 9. Nothing was reported stolen at the time of the report.
  • Someone burglarized an unlocked car in the 3500 block of Tamarind Drive between 10 p.m. Oct. 8 and 10 a.m. Oct. 9. Nothing was reported stolen at the time of the report.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 3600 block of Palm Canyon Drive reported around 2 p.m. Oct. 9 that they found a window had been damaged and left open. Various items were reported stolen from the bedroom.

IRS SCAM
A resident in the 2200 block of Oak Avenue reported around 3:30 p.m. Oct. 10 that three men purporting to represent the Internal Revenue Service knocked on their front door and claimed that they had not filed their taxes. The resident recognized it to be a scam and did not offer any information before calling police. Police did not provide any description of the scammers.

ARRESTS

Arnez Antonio Harper, 23, of the 1400 block of North Lawndale Avenue, Chicago, and Darrrien Moore, 27, of the 1300 block of West 18th Place, Chicago, were arrested around 1:30 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Northbrook Court Neiman Marcus and charged with retail theft after stealing several hats and scarfs.

Igor Sandu, 26, of the 4200 block of North Bloomington Avenue, Arlington Heights, was arrested around 1:15 p.m. Oct. 4 in the 400 block of Huehl Road and charged with battery after police determined he caused a drywall worker to fall from scaffolding, causing several injuries.

Danuta Krakowiak, 49, of the 800 block of Winesap Court, Prospect Heights, was arrested around 5:45 p.m. Oct. 4 in the area of Waukegan Road and Westleigh Drive and charged with driving under the influence and aggravated driving under the influence after an officer was dispatched to a report of a possibly intoxicated driver. She was also issued citations for driving without insurance and improper lane usage.

Jessica Recenko, 19, of the 2000 block of Walnut Circle, Northbrook, was arrested around 12:40 a.m. Oct. 5 in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road and charged with driving under the influence after an officer was dispatched to a report of two intoxicated people in a vehicle. The officer determined the driver was impaired and arrested Recenko.

Scott Brenner, 21, of the 1700 block of Tudor Lane, Northbrook, was arrested around 8:15 p.m. Oct. 7 and charged with unlawful delivery of cannabis and unlawful possession of cannabis following a traffic stop at the intersection of Shermer and Meadow roads. An officer on patrol noticed his car commit a traffic violation, pulled it over and the driver gave consent to search the vehicle when asked. Police found an unspecified amount of cannabis in the glove box. Brenner was also issued a citation for violating the median.
