3 Oak Forest Businesses Fail Tobacco Compliance Check

Most businesses surveyed passed the test by refusing to sell tobacco products to minors.

OAK FOREST, IL - Three Oak Forest businesses failed a recent tobacco compliance check conducted by the Oak Forest Police Department.

The second round of the 2016-17 "Kids Can't Buy Them Here" tobacco compliance survey involved 21 locations in the city on Saturday, Feb. 25. Three of the businesses - the 7-Eleven at 4901 W. 167th Street, Golo Food Mart at 15100 S. Cicero Avenue and the Convenient Food Mart at 15103 S. Cicero - sold tobacco products to minors during the check, according to a memo from the city.

Youth agents under 18 years old provided identification showing they are underage at all of the businesses surveyed.

The purpose of the program is to determine which businesses may be selling tobacco products to minors (persons under 18 years of age) within city limits, according to the memo.

The city commended the 18 businesses "for taking a proactive approach" by identifying the minors and not selling the tobacco products.

Businesses that passed the check included the Shell Gas Station on 159th Street, Circle K, Osco Drug, Dotty’s – Golf View Plaza, Marathon Gas Station, 7-Eleven on Central Avenue, Mobile Gas Station, Foremost Liquors, Citgo Gas Station, Stop & Go, Dotty’s – Oak Forest Commons, Food 4 Less Fuel Station, BP Amoco, Food 4 Less, Swagat Foods, Walgreens, Shell Gas Station on Cicero Avenue and Rose Liquors.
