67-Year Old Man Accused Of Strangling Woman In Bremen Tonwship

Cook County Sheriff's Police charged a 67-year-old man with multiple felonies in connection to a Sunday incident near 163rd and Pulaski.

BREMEN TOWNSHIP, IL -- A 67-year-old man has been charged by Cook County Sheriff's police in an alleged domestic incident in which a 62-year-old woman was reportedly struck and strangled at a residence in Bremen Tonwship.

Police arrived at the residence in the 4100 block of W. 163rd Street in unincorporated Bremen Township at 7 p.m. Sunday night, where they said they were told a 67-year-old man struck and strangled a 62-year-old woman.

A news release from the Cook County Sheriff's Office indicates the woman tried to reach her phone, but the man, identified as Jerome Powell, took it away. He also prevented her from leaving the room she was in, but the victim later got a hold of her phone and called for help.

Powell was arrested at the residence later that night and charged the following day with aggravated domestic battery/strangle, aggravated domestic battery/great bodily harm, aggravated battery/great bodily harm and unlawful restraint, all felonies.
