'Captain America' Bandit Left 4 Kids In Car While He Robbed Bank: FBI
Federal authorities have charged a Markham man with the robbery of the Fifth Third Bank in Country Club Hills.

COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, IL -- The man who wore a “Captain America” shirt while robbing a Fifth Third Bank in Country Club Hills last week had four children waiting in the car while he robbed the bank in an attempt to avoid eviction, according to an FBI affidavit charging Carlos Montelongo of Markham with the crime.
The affidavit indicates Montelongo “by threat of force” robbed a bank teller of $501 in cash at 12:32 p.m. on July 11. The alleged bandit confessed to the crime shortly after he was captured by a Homewood police officer in his home driveway in Markham, according to the affidavit.
The victim teller told the FBI that a man she later identified as Montelongo came into the bank and stood for minutes at the deposit slip counter before leaving. He returned shortly after, this time with no customers in the building, with a yellow and black backpack.

The teller said the man handed her a note that demanded $4,000 in an envelope or he would shoot everyone in the bank. Other bank employees indicated the note was left behind a the bank after the robber left with the $501 the teller gave him.

A witness in the parking lot told authorities that a man wearing a Captain America T-shirt and green camouflage shorts came out of the bank walking with a fast pace and entered and older model Sequoia truck. The witness gave truck’s the license plate number to authorities from Country Club Hills, Homewood and Hazel Crest who began working the case immediately.

A Homewood police officer found the “white Toyota SUV” in the driveway of the Markham home which it had been registered and arrested Montelongo at that location.
It was at that time when authorities first noticed four children were in the vehicle. Law enforcement also found $501, a white Fifth Third Bank money envelope and a backpack with yellow on it in the car, according to the affidavit. The money was in the same denomination which had been reported stolen from the bank.
In allegedly confessing to the crime, Montelongo said he robbed the bank to try and avoid eviction.
