Dog Bites Off Part of Man's Lip: Police

The Rottweiler was protecting Grandma, family said.

A man visiting family in Oak Forest was attacked by theirΒ Rottweiler Nov. 28, and the dog bit him so badly he needed surgery to repair the damage.

The 27-year-old man was sitting on the ground playing with the dog at a home in the 4600 block of 152nd Street, when the dog reportedly leapt at him, biting into his lip and tearing off a part of it, according to police.

The victim underwent cosmetic surgery at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. Police issued the dog’s owner a Cook County animal bite report. Family said they believed the dog bit the man because it felt protective of a grandmother, the mother-in-law of the dog’s owner.
