Several Oak Forest Patch readers emailed or asked directly why purple ribbons are tied on poles and posts along Central Avenue.
After a little sleuthing, Oak Forest Patch uncovered the "twisted" truth behind them.
Relay for Life Oak Forest had tied them up to draw attention to their fundraising effort and the parade coming this Saturday.

Relay participants and organizers will march on Central Avenue from 151 Street, near , and end the Gazebo at Central Park, starting at 11 a.m.
The Relay itself on June 22 and runs all night until 6 a.m. June 23 at Raiders Field behind the Oak Forest Park District's at 157th & Central.

Relay for Life is the cancer research fundraising event done in communities across the county. The American Cancer Society sponsors the organization. The Relays are meant to honor those hurt by cancer and offer support for those who have survived. Teams camp out all night and take turns walking for the length of the event. It's a family friendly event where there's often food and entertainment.
