Teen Charged In Oak Lawn Gas Station Shooting

Carson K. Banasiak of Chicago Ridge has been charged with aggravated battery in the shooting at a Cicero Avenue gas station Thursday night.

OAK LAWN, IL -- Police have charged an 18-year-old Chicago Ridge man in connection with the Thursday night shooting at the Citgo Gas Station at 98th and Cicero. Carson K. Banasiak, the alleged offender, was charged with aggravated battery Saturday night in connection with the incident that wounded a former Oak Lawn High School football player.

Oak Lawn police said in a news release that they arrived at the gas station at 9856 S. Cicero Ave. at 9:42 p.m. on Thursday and found a juvenile who had been shot in the leg. The alleged offender was spotted blocks away from the gas station and positively identified, police said.

A police investigation indicates that Banasiak and the victim were involved in a physical altercation that included a struggle for the weapon police say Banasiak brought to the scene.

The victim sustained a non-life threatening wound and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center.

Banasiak was transported to the Cook County Court Facility at 26th and California, where he remains held without bond.
