Graduation season continued this month as the Advocate Christ Medical Center Paramedic Education Program recently celebrated the 2018-2019 class of paramedics.

The 10-month program trains individuals for the pre-hospital profession of being a paramedic at the Center for Pre-Hospital Care – EMS Academy. On average, individual students treat approximately 250 patients and spend on average of 350 hours at Christ Medical Center in clinical rotations in the Adult and Pediatric Emergency Departments, Trauma, Labor and Delivery, Respiratory and Surgical Anesthesia. Students also spend 800 hours treating patients in ambulances.

In total, this class treated 4,800 patients during their training, according to Don Mazor, paramedic clinical coordinator and education assistant.

The Christ Medical Center Paramedic Education Program is nationally accredited and is known as one of the most difficult, demanding and rewarding programs in the Chicago area, he said.

“It is with great pride for us here at the Academy that the paramedic education students at Christ Medical Center have a 100 percent passing rate on the Illinois State Paramedic Licensing Exam for the past 25 years,” said Mazor.
