Missing their students, Richards staff drops ice cream, books in neighborhoods
Missing their students, Richards High School staff members boarded school buses this week to deliver ice cream sandwiches, essential classroom materials, and some smiles.
They’d rather have greeted students in school hallways but settled for bus stops to meet, talk, and distribute the cargo.
The academic year has started like none other. With the COVID-19 pandemic requiring that instruction happen remotely, Richards administrators and teachers wanted students to understand how much they’ve been missed.

So staff members stuffed book bags with textbooks and supplies for students unable to come to campus to pick up essential materials. Along with coolers filled with ice cream sandwiches, the three school buses toured the Richards attendance area for hours.
Teachers and administrators met Richards students at bus stops to deliver the goods.
