Burbank Cops Believe Car In Fatal Hit-And-Run Is Still In Area

"We really believe the car is still in the area," Burbank police say of vehicle in fatal hit-and-run.

BURBANK, IL -- Burbank police believe the car involved in a hit-and-run accident on Saturday evening that killed a 9-year-old Chicago boy and seriously injured his mother and younger sibling is still in the area. Police released photos and a partial video clip of a gray, four-door sedan hitting the curb as it made a right turn onto 87th Street from Cicero Avenue, a block south of where Saturday’s pedestrian strike happened.

Investigators believe the car that struck the family as the crossed the road is a 2007 or 2008 four-door Ford Fusion light in color (possibly light gray or silver).

“Sunday being Father’s Day, many of our investigators who are fathers themselves were [at the police station] working the case,” said Div. Chief Mike Dudlo, of the Burbank Police Department.

Burbank police are being assisted in the ever evolving investigation by the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force and the Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team. Dudlo said police have been receiving a lot of tips from the public. Investigators have cleared some of those tips which Dudlo said were based on “rumor and innuendo.”

“There is sufficient evidence to say that this was a tragic accident,” Dudlo said. “It was not intentional.”

While police said the driver who struck the mother and her children didn’t stop to render aid, witnesses did try to help.

“We really believe the car is still in the area,” Dudlo said. “We’re checking body shops and car dealerships to see if any brought in a gray car with front end damage.”

Dudlo urges the driver the gray car to turn themselves into police. Anyone with knowledge about the car or incident is urged to call Burbank police at 708-924-7300. The 29-year-old mother and her other young child are in stable condition at area hospitals.

“We’re looking for the person to come forward to at least give closure to the family,” Dudlo said. “Not only are they hurting physically, they’re grieving a horrible loss.”

Meanwhile, the search for the gray car as well as the driver of a full-sized white SUV, who police think may have witnessed the accident, continues.
