Charges Pending For Barricaded Man In Oak Lawn Standoff: Police

Police said man threatened to shoot any officer who came to his door while brandishing a shotgun triggering three-hour standoff.

OAK LAWN, IL — An armed man who barricaded himself inside his home Tuesday evening surrendered to police after a three-hour standoff, Oak Lawn police said. No shots were fired and there were no injuries.

Around 8 p.m., police responded to a domestic disturbance at a home in the 9700 block of South Warren Ave. Officers were met outside by the caller and her 23-year-old son. The woman told police that she and her husband were having domestic problems. As officers approached the house, police said the husband began yelling profanities and threatened to shoot any cop who came to his door. The man allegedly brandished a shotgun, triggering a three-hour standoff.

Police set up a perimeter around the home. An emergency notification was sent to area residents telling them to remain in their homes. Some neighbors were kept from returning to their homes for several hours as police tried to talk to the man. Another neighbor told Patch she saw a man pacing with a gun.

A regional SWAT team from Cook County comprised of members from suburban police departments, assisted Oak Lawn police. Around 11:15 p.m., police said the man surrendered himself without incident. Multiple weapons were recovered from the house. The man’s name is not being released pending criminal charges.
