Gage Park Man Identified As One of Burbank Crash Victims

CHICAGO, IL -- A Gage Park family is mourning the loss of a son and brother who died in a single car crash in Burbank early Saturday morning.

Victoria Lopez identified one of the male victims as her brother, 25-year-old Adolpho Acosta Jr. Acosta was killed when the 2004 silver Mitsubishi crashed into a light pole and chain link fence. Another man in the car also died. Lopez said the car belonged to her brother but didn’t know who was driving.

Acosta’s sister said there were five children in the family all raised by their mother. Lopez said her mother flew back to Chicago on Saturday night after being notified of her son’s death in California, where she had been visiting relatives.

“We’ve had over 50 people call us today and just cry,” Lopez said. “He was the most loving guy anyone ever knew. He gave the biggest bear hugs you've ever felt.”

Burbank police said the vehicle was traveling eastbound on 79th Street around 3:11 a.m. Saturday when the driver tried to make an “unknown maneuver.” The car left the roadway and struck a light pole and chain link fence.

Both men were taken from the scene to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where they were pronounced dead. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Lopez said the men were driving to get food.

Acosta’s family has started an online fundraiser on GoFundMe to help pay for funeral costs.
