Oak Lawn Veterans Day Ceremony Moved Indoors

Oak Lawn's Veterans Day Ceremony will be held inside Johnson-Phelps VFW Post 5220 on Monday, Nov. 11.

OAK LAWN, IL — Oak Lawn Veterans Day ceremonies, originally slated to take place outdoors, have been moved inside to the Johnson-Phelps VFW Post 5220, 5220, 9514 S 52nd Ave. (52nd Avenue and Yurell). The ceremony will start at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11.

Veterans, their families and all residents are invited to attend the ceremony and thank a vet for their service. The ceremony will be attended by village officials, the Disabled Veterans of America. The Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School choir will perform during the ceremony.

U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski (IL-3) has also confirmed his appearance and will appear early in the ceremony around 10:30 a.m. Oak Lawn’s ceremony will be the first of nine ceremonies honoring veterans that Lipinski is expected to attend in Illinois’s Third Congressional District on Veterans Day.

Around 11:11 a.m., the precise hour and minute that the armistice went into effect ending World War I in Europe 101 years ago, the VFW will play taps and fire a 21-gun salute.

Stick around for coffee and refreshments after the ceremony. The Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School orchestra will perform patriotic songs of remembrance.

Hometown will be holding a remembrance ceremony at 11 a.m. by the War Memorial, in Patterson Park, 8780 Main St.
