Man Accused of Using 'Found Receipt' to Return Merchandise: Prosecutors

A man is accused of picking up a discarded Walmart sales receipt off the ground and trying to return matching items for a cash refund that he did not purchase, prosecutors said in court on Monday.
Michael Dawson, 34, is charged with retail theft. According to the charges, he entered the Walmart store at 7050 S. Cicero, Bedford Park, on July 12.

Prosecutors said that loss prevention officers observed Dawson selecting four cans of motor oil and a pair of boots amounting to $75 and then take the items to customer service for a cash refund.
Dawson apparently picked up a discarded sales receipt off the ground and then selected matching items, prosecutors said.

Bail was set at $75,000. He is due back in court on August 4.
