New Details Emerge From Chicago Ridge Mini-Mart Armed Robbery

The suspect forced an employee and customer at The Detour mini-mart to put cash and merchandise into a large black bag, police said.

CHICAGO RIDGE, IL — Chicago Ridge police have released more details about the armed robbery of a grocery and liquor mini mart that took place Tuesday morning.

Around 9:40 a.m., police said a man wearing a mask and red hoodie entered The Detour, 9901 S. Harlem Ave. After walking around the store for several minutes, police said the man pulled out a handgun with an extended magazine and pointed it at the employee behind the counter.

The man is said to have ordered the employee and a customer who was inside the store to empty shelves of merchandise and the contents of a cash register into a large black bag. He also took numerous bottles of alcohol from the shelves and left with the items, police said.

After leaving the store, the man can be seen on surveillance video walking through the parking lot north toward some apartment buildings. Security video footage has been recovered from several residents and the Detour. Officers are following leads and have images of the man, described as a black male, climbing into a black car.

Police said the man left the area turning north on Harlem Avenue from the apartment complex. No one was injured inside the store. Anyone with information is asked to call the Chicago Ridge Police Department at 708-425-7831.
