No One Hurt in Oak Lawn House Fire

Oak Lawn firefighters battle blaze on Normandy Avenue Saturday evening after family and dog escape.

OAK LAWN, IL -- Firefighters beat back a blaze that chased an Oak Lawn family and their dog out of their home on Saturday evening.

The fire was reported about 8:30 p.m. in the 9500 block of South Normandy Avenue. When firefighters arrived, heavy smoke was billowing from the single family house. Due the magnitude of the fire, the Oak Lawn Fire Department initiated as “working fire” response, which brought in additional resources, OLFD Chief George Sheets said in an email.

The fire was struck within 30 minutes with substantial fire and smoke damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. There were no injuries. Damages to the home are estimated at $50,000.
