Oak Lawn Police July 4th Campaign To Tackle Unbuckled, Drunk Drivers
Oak Lawn police will be watching for impaired, unbuckled and distracted drivers now through July 5 ahead of the Independence Day holiday.
OAK LAWN, IL — Just when you thought it was safe again to drive around not wearing a seatbelt after the Oak Lawn Police Department’s successful Memorial Day “Click It Or Ticket Campaign” that saw 282 seat belt citations issued – police announced Fourth of July traffic enforcement plans.
From now through the early morning hours of July 5, Oak Lawn police will step up enforcement patrols with a focus impaired and unbuckled drivers. This latest enforcement campaign will encompass the three weekends leading up to the July 4 holiday weekend.
“It’s simple: If you’re driving, don’t drink or use marijuana or other drugs,” said Sgt Acke. “Our officers will be working around the clock to keep impaired drivers off the road and enforce all other traffic laws.”

Oak Lawn police will join the Illinois State Police and more than 200 local police and sheriff’s departments for the increased statewide enforcement effort.
The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High Get a DUI” and “Click It or Ticket” programs are made possible by federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation. The enforcement period runs concurrently with IDOT’s media campaign, reminding motorists that “It’s Not A Game,” to drive impaired.
