OLCHS Speech Team Headed To IHSA Finals

Oak Lawn Community High School's storied speech team and performance in the round is state bound for the IHSA finals Feb. 15 and Feb. 16.

OAK LAWN, IL -- Oak Lawn Community High School’s storied Speech Team is headed to state. The Spartans have qualified for eight events in the IHSA State Finals in Peoria. The competition takes place Feb. 15 and Feb. 16 at the Peoria Civic Center.

To qualify students need to plan in the top three in the sectional final. Noah Swanberg and Abigail Moore were Sectional Champions in Dramatic Duet Acting; Bianca Honeycutt and Jada Jackson were tournament runner ups in Humorous Duet Acting; Abby Moore took third in Dramatic Interpretation; Marlene Favila took third in Radio Speaking; Bianca Honeycutt took third in Poetry Reading; Kendallyn Julkowski took third in Impromptu Speaking; and Alondra Camacho took third in Informative Speaking.

The high school’s Performance in the Round, “The Red Serpent of Genesis,” grabbed first plae 2019 sectional championship. This is the first time since 2008 that Oak Lawn Community High School has earned this achievement. The cast of the Performance in the Round is: Ariana Santee, Abigail Harris, Marco Hernandez, Mary Majcherek, Jake Majerczrk, Dan McLawhorn, Ella Moore, Matt Rios, Melak Shehadeh, Grace Sievers, Cylia Srmek, Alexia Stang, James Walsh, Tomás Walsh, Lucas Wessel, Alfredo Aguilar and Brianna Fandry.
