Parked Car Taking Up Two Places Leads To Drug Arrests: Police

Oak Lawn woman had "chunk of cocaine," friend had blunt tucked behind ear, prosecutors said.

OAK LAWN, IL -- Oak Lawn police arrested a man and woman for drug possession who were in a parked car that was taking up two spaces, prosecutors said. Brittany Bowie, 24, of Oak Lawn, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on felony charges of manufacturing/delivery, possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor charge for possession of drug paraphernalia. Thomas Cloney, 22, of Palos Hills, is charged with manufacture/delivery of cannabis.

Police were on patrol April 19 when officers noticed a parked in the an apartment complex in the 5700 block of West Circle Drive, with a lot of people going back and forth, the prosecutor said. One the car’s occupants, later identified as Cloney, allegedly had a blunt tucked behind his ear. The prosecutor said officers searched Cloney’s backpack where they found two jars packed with 60.4 grams of cannabis and picture of Cloney at Chuck E. Cheese’s. Cops also found six baggies of cocaine weight 5.9 grams of cocaine in Bowie’s purse, according to the charges. . Bowie allegedly consented to let police search her nearby apartment.

Inside Bowie’s apartment, offices found 50 grams of cannabis, a baggie of Alprazolam, two 16-oz. bottles of codeine cough syrup, and a chunk of cocaine that weighed 37.5 grams. A digital scale and a credit card with what appeared to be cocaine dust, the prosecutor said. Bowie allegedly admitted to police that she had been selling cocaine.

“She’s facing a mandatory minimum sentence of six years,” Felice said. “Selling drugs is serious.”

Felice set Bowie’s bail at $200,000. Cloney is currently on parole for possession of a stolen vehicle. His bail was set at $25,000. Their next court date is May 17 in Bridgeview.
