Pedestrian Struck by Metra Train in Oak Lawn Dies: UPDATE
Pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene, Oak Lawn fire chief says.

OAK LAWN, IL, Update, 9 p.m. -- Oak Lawn Fire Chief George Sheets said that the person struck by an outgoing Metra train early Thursday evening has died. According to Sheets, a train conductor indicated that he had noticed, at the last minute, an individual on the tracks. The train attempted to stop but was unable to do so.
Fire personnel were dispatched around 6:20 p.m. to a train/pedestrian accident near the intersection of 95th Street and 51st Avenue.
“It is unfortunate,” Sheets said. “The unidentified individual was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Metra spokesman Michael Gillis said the deceased individual was a 22-year-old man. No further information is available.
Trains on the Southwest Line resumed service around 7:45 p.m. Thursday, but were operating 35 to 40 minutes late.

Update, 7:35 p.m. -- Trains on the Southwest Line are on the the move again, but operating at delays of 35 to 40 minutes after an outgoing Metra train struck a pedestrian near the Oak Lawn station around 6:20 p.m. Thursday.
Passengers on Metra Train #829 have been transferred to another train that will make all stops to the end of the line in Manhattan.
Original story -- An outgoing Metra train struck a pedestrian early Thursday evening in Oak Lawn. Trains are delayed in both directions on the Southwest Line.
A Metra official said that train #829 had left the station in downtown Chicago around 5:40 p.m. Thursday, with service on the Southwest Line to Manhattan.
The train reportedly struck the pedestrian near the Oak Lawn Metra station around 6:20 p.m. near 95th Street and 51st Avenue. Oak Lawn firefighters reported a pedestrian pinned under the train.
No information was immediately available about the pedestrian’s gender, condition or circumstances about the accident,
